The hybrid powertrain ruled 2024 with the Toyota RAV4 taking the new car sales crown as the best selling model (Ford Ranger took the overall title when 4X2 models are included) with the majority of vehicles delivered with a fuel efficient hybrid engine.
Toyota was the market leader again and while the popular Hilux maintained a similar volume to 2023, the Ford Ranger continued to dominate the 4X4 ute market.
A big mover in the Top 10 was the Ford Everest (large SUV) that took advantage of the Toyota Prado model changeover in 2024. Sales soared from 15,071 in 2023 to 26,494 units in 2024.
In fourth place, the Mitsubishi Outlander rode the wave of enthusiasm for PHEV powertrains to take advantage of the FBT Exemption that is expiring on 31st March 2025.
Rounding out the top 10 is the Kia Sportage which became available as a hybrid in 2024 which gives Fleet Managers another option in fuel efficient mid-sized SUVs. It appears sales were hampered by supply earlier in the year however the team at Kia Australia were able to squeeze out some more units in the back half of the year
