MG Motor has confirmed the Australian arrival of the all-new MG7, a four-door fastback aimed at buyers who still want their car to make a statement — without blowing out the budget.
Positioned as a sporting mid-size sedan, the MG7 blends classic fastback proportions with modern technology and a surprisingly punchy powertrain. Under the bonnet is a 2.0-litre turbo-charged petrol engine producing 170kW and 380Nm, paired with a nine-speed automatic transmission and an electronic limited-slip differential. Power is sent to the front wheels, wrapped in 245/40 Michelin tyres on 19-inch alloy wheels.
According to MG Motor Australia, the MG7 has been designed to challenge expectations in the segment by combining expressive styling with everyday usability. Business Director Kevin Gannon said the car reflects MG’s belief that driving should still be fun, with design and performance playing a central role in how people connect with their vehicle.
Design that leans into drama
From the outside, the MG7 wears its sporting intent proudly. Key design highlights include frameless double-pane glass doors, quad exhaust outlets and an adaptive three-stage electric rear spoiler that deploys at speed. It’s a silhouette that stands apart from the more conservative shapes dominating the mid-size sedan market.
Inside, the focus shifts to technology and comfort. A 12.3-inch colour touchscreen anchors the cabin, supported by wireless phone charging, wired and wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, satellite navigation and a head-up display. For drivers who like to fine-tune their experience, exhaust sound, suspension settings, X-mode performance and the active spoiler can all be customised from the driver’s seat.
Comfort, tech and safety covered
MG has clearly aimed to make the MG7 feel premium without pushing the price north. Standard equipment includes dual-zone climate control, a six-way electrically adjustable driver’s seat, panoramic sunroof and a 14-speaker Bose audio system.
Safety hasn’t been overlooked either. The MG7 is engineered to meet five-star ANCAP standards and comes with seven airbags, a 360-degree camera system and MG Pilot driver-assistance technologies as standard.
Pricing and fleet relevance
The MG7 will be offered in a single, well-specified trim level, priced at $44,990 MSRP plus on-road costs. Optional exterior colours are priced at $695, with a Bordeaux Red suede-style interior also available for $695.
For fleet buyers and novated lease customers, the appeal is straightforward: a distinctive mid-size sedan with strong performance, high standard specification and a clear value proposition. Backing that up is MG’s 10-year warranty when serviced through its dealer network, which now extends to more than 100 locations nationwide.
In a market increasingly dominated by SUVs, the MG7 is a reminder that there’s still room for a well-priced, design-led sedan — especially for organisations looking to give drivers something with a bit more personality.
