Cyclists commuting into Sydney’s CBD now have access to a new secure and affordable facility, with the City of Sydney opening a purpose-built bike hub at Circular Quay.
The hub, operated by Secure Parking, offers all-day parking for just $5 or a monthly membership for $60. In addition to parking for up to 200 bikes, including larger cargo bikes, the facility includes 400 lockers and 28 showers (14 for women and 14 for men).
Lord Mayor Clover Moore said the investment makes it easier for workers to choose cycling as their daily commute.
“We continue to make it easier and more convenient for office, retail and other workers to make the healthy and affordable choice to ride,” Cr Moore said.
“Many people who ride don’t have these fantastic facilities at their place of work. We’ve stepped in because cycling helps reduce emissions and congestion on our roads and public transport.”
The new facility is conveniently accessed via Ah Toy Lane and connects directly with the Pitt Street cycleway. It complements the recently opened Oxford Street cycleway and the City’s broader program to expand the cycling network across Sydney.
Secure Parking’s General Manager NSW/ACT, Darren Beazley, said the company is excited to bring its expertise to bicycle infrastructure.
“This is the first bicycle hub we’ve operated in Australia and our team is genuinely excited about this new way to support the cycling public,” Mr Beazley said.
“Managing bike hubs like this gives us a unique chance to demonstrate our knowledge, skills, and expertise while also providing a valuable community service.”
The Circular Quay bike hub is open 24/7 for members and is staffed periodically from Monday to Friday.
