Ironman 4×4 has announced a major step forward for BYD SHARK 6 owners, expanding distribution of its full accessory range through Ironman’s nationwide retail network. The move follows the success of the initial partnership with BYD Australia, which saw Ironman supply an exclusive range of accessories during the vehicle’s launch.
The new arrangement allows customers to purchase Ironman 4×4 accessories either directly from Ironman stores or through BYD dealerships at the time of vehicle purchase, giving buyers more choice and faster access to fitment services.
“The dealer network did a fantastic job supporting the initial BYD SHARK 6 launch, but as demand grew, we recognised the need to broaden access,” said Mark Berger, General Manager Marketing at Ironman 4×4. “Our stores are equipped and experienced in accessory fitment, and this change means customers can now choose whichever purchase and installation pathway best suits them.”
The full range now available through Ironman stores includes:
- Lightweight aluminium bull bars – available in two designs to suit different needs.
- Underbody protection – offering added safety without excess weight.
- Roof racks and canopies – with aluminium construction for improved strength-to-weight performance.
- Roller shutters and side steps – enhancing utility and access.
- The IM2.5 Monotube Suspension Lift Kit with GVM upgrade option – now certified and available through accredited Ironman 4×4 centres nationwide.
The GVM upgrade, launched in September, positions the BYD SHARK 6 within the coveted one-tonne class. It increases the Gross Vehicle Mass from 3,500kg to 3,850kg, lifting payload capacity by 350kg. Available in multiple configurations to suit various load requirements, it’s the first certified GVM upgrade for a plug-in hybrid ute in Australia.
“Weight is a critical factor for plug-in hybrid vehicles,” Berger explained. “We recognised early on that traditional steel accessories weren’t suitable. By redesigning our range in aluminium, we achieved significant weight savings while maintaining the strength and durability Ironman 4×4 is known for.”
The partnership between BYD and Ironman 4×4 began before the SHARK 6’s Australian debut, with BYD selecting Ironman as its preferred accessory partner due to the company’s agility and engineering expertise. Initially, accessories were sold under the BYD brand, but all products are now available under the Ironman 4×4 banner, reflecting the brand’s broader national rollout.
During the SHARK 6’s record-breaking first month of sales, Ironman reported an 87% accessorisation rate, with customers most commonly opting for the roller cover, low-profile bull bar, and roof canopy.
The decision to open direct distribution reflects feedback from customers and dealers seeking faster turnaround times, especially for pre-delivery fitments and post-purchase upgrades.
“Whether it’s a tradie needing a more capable workhorse or a weekend adventurer heading off-road, we now have the network to deliver accessories and upgrades quickly, safely, and locally,” Berger said.
Ironman 4×4’s national store network provides installation and support across Australia, with certified centres capable of performing GVM upgrades, suspension installations, and full vehicle fit-outs.
The company’s range for the BYD SHARK 6 marks a milestone for the Australian EV and PHEV utility market — providing customers and fleets with a genuine one-stop solution for accessories and load management, engineered specifically for plug-in hybrid requirements.
