The Toyota Camry Ascent Sport has been named the 2026 Fleet Car of the Year in the Fleet News Group Awards, finishing on top after a detailed assessment by fleet industry judges using Best Value Analysis.
The Camry was selected from three finalists in one of the key vehicle categories in the 2026 awards program, competing against the MG ZS Vibe CVT and Subaru Forester Hybrid AWD.
Unlike many automotive awards, the Fleet Car of the Year judging process is designed around the needs of organisations operating vehicles every day. The judges are fleet buyers and fleet professionals who understand the operational, financial and practical considerations that influence vehicle selection.
The finalists were brought together for the Fleet News Group Car of the Year judging days in Sydney, where the judges were able to evaluate the vehicles side-by-side.
Camry leads the Best Value Analysis
Supporting the judges’ assessment is Fleet News Group’s Best Value Analysis (BVA), which looks beyond the purchase price to assess the areas that matter when a vehicle is being selected for fleet use.
The Toyota Camry Ascent Sport achieved an overall BVA score of 8.1815 out of 10, the highest of the three Fleet Car of the Year finalists.
Its final scores were:
| Best Value Analysis section | Camry score | Maximum |
|---|---|---|
| Whole-of-life cost (WOLC) | 3.2000 | 4.0 |
| Ergonomics | 1.0455 | 1.5 |
| Car park/driveway appeal | 1.2360 | 1.5 |
| Sustainability & safety | 1.7000 | 2.0 |
| Manufacturer commitment | 1.0000 | 1.0 |
| Overall BVA score | 8.1815 | 10.0 |
The results highlight why the Camry continues to make a strong case as a fleet vehicle.
While whole-of-life cost remains an important part of the analysis, the BVA deliberately considers a broader range of factors. Fleet vehicles need to work for the organisation buying them, the people driving them and, increasingly, the organisation’s safety and sustainability objectives.
Strong across every area
One of the Camry’s strengths was the consistency of its performance.
It scored the maximum 1.0 point for manufacturer commitment, reflecting Toyota’s established ability to support fleet customers, while its 1.70 out of 2.0 result for sustainability and safety was another significant contributor to its overall score.
The Camry also performed strongly for car park and driveway appeal, recording 1.236 out of 1.5, an important consideration for organisations where vehicles are part of the public face of the business.
Its ergonomics score of 1.0455 out of 1.5 added to a result that demonstrated a well-rounded proposition rather than relying on one standout attribute.
Three very different fleet propositions
The 2026 Fleet Car of the Year finalists also demonstrated how broad the requirements of modern fleets have become.
The Camry Ascent Sport represented the traditional passenger car proposition, while the MG ZS Vibe CVT offered a compact SUV alternative and the Subaru Forester Hybrid AWD brought hybrid technology, SUV practicality and all-wheel drive capability to the final three.
The MG ZS finished with an overall BVA result of 7.408 out of 10, while the Subaru Forester Hybrid AWD scored 6.948 out of 10.
Bringing these vehicles together allowed the judges to look beyond specification sheets and consider how each would perform as part of a working fleet.
A fleet-focused Car of the Year
The purpose of the Fleet News Group vehicle awards is not to identify the most exciting new vehicle or simply select the newest model.
The question is much more practical: which vehicle represents the best proposition for fleet buyers?
That requires consideration of whole-of-life cost, driver experience, safety, sustainability, vehicle appeal and the support available from the manufacturer throughout the fleet lifecycle.
In 2026, the combined judging process and Best Value Analysis put the Toyota Camry Ascent Sport at the top of the Fleet Car of the Year field, earning it the title of 2026 Fleet Car of the Year.
