Genesis has unveiled the GV90, its first full-size flagship SUV and a new electric halo model that combines a 123.5kWh battery, 490kW dual-motor powertrain and an estimated 500km driving range with an extensive list of luxury and safety technologies.
Based on the NEOLUN concept revealed in 2024, the production GV90 will be offered in standard GV90 and more exclusive GV90 Neolun forms. The Neolun introduces Genesis’ distinctive Neolun Arch Gate – coach doors that dispense with a conventional visible B-pillar to create a wide opening for passengers.
While the GV90 sits firmly at the premium end of the market, its combination of passenger space, electric range and rear-seat technology could make it particularly interesting for executive transport and chauffeur applications.
Big battery and serious performance
Underpinning the GV90 is Genesis’ eMP platform, developed specifically for the brand’s flagship models.
Its 123.5kWh battery is the largest fitted to a Hyundai Motor Group electric vehicle, with Genesis claiming an estimated range of approximately 500km for the seven-seat version based on internal testing.
Using a 350kW DC fast charger, Genesis says the battery can be replenished from 10 to 80 per cent in 22 minutes.
Front and rear electric motors produce a combined maximum output of 490kW and 800Nm, with 240kW and 350Nm produced at the front and 250kW and 450Nm at the rear.
Dual electronic limited-slip differentials manage power distribution across both axles, while multi-chamber air suspension and electronically controlled dampers are designed to deliver the refined ride expected of a flagship luxury SUV.
Rear-wheel steering can turn the rear wheels by up to five degrees, reducing the turning circle to what Genesis describes as comparable with a mid-size car – potentially useful given the GV90 stretches 5,285mm in length and 2,030mm in width.
A cabin designed around passengers
The GV90 has a 3,245mm wheelbase, flat floor and a cabin deliberately designed around passenger comfort.
In the GV90 Neolun, the motorised front seats can rotate through 180 degrees while the vehicle is parked, creating a face-to-face lounge configuration that Genesis suggests could be used for socialising or conducting business.
For customers seeking an even more exclusive experience, the four-seat GV90 Neolun Executive Suite adds features including semi-aniline leather seating, a second-row console, refrigerator, integrated tables, privacy blinds and a six-zone Smart Vision Roof.
Genesis has also developed a Neolun First Edition based on the four-seat Executive Suite configuration.
Cabin technology includes a 23.6-inch OLED display that can rise by 90mm while the vehicle is parked to become a 24.6-inch entertainment screen, complemented by a 25-inch head-up display.
The Pleos Connect infotainment system uses Android Automotive OS and includes access to third-party applications as well as the Gleo AI generative AI assistant.
Other technology includes Remote Smart Parking Assist 3 and Memory Reversing Assist, which can remember the vehicle’s path and guide it backwards out of confined spaces.
Safety takes centre stage
Safety is another major focus, with the GV90 featuring 12 airbags including what Genesis describes as the world’s first Roof Airbag.
Designed for severe rollover crashes, the airbag deploys across the glass roof to help prevent occupant ejection and reduce the risk of passengers striking the roof.
Genesis has also developed an aluminium-intensive body structure to increase rigidity while reducing weight, with ultra-high-strength steel used around the sides of the passenger compartment and battery.
Battery protection includes Thermal Runaway Protection technology intended to prevent heat spreading between cells, together with a cloud-based battery management system capable of identifying potential abnormalities before they develop into larger problems.
A new electric flagship
Genesis says the GV90 represents the culmination of its approach to luxury, combining electrification with Korean-inspired design and its “Son-nim” philosophy of treating customers as honoured guests.
At 5,285mm long with a 3,245mm wheelbase, the GV90 is unmistakably a full-size luxury SUV, while its 500km estimated range and 22-minute fast-charging claim show how quickly large premium electric vehicles are evolving.
For fleet operators, the GV90 is unlikely to be a volume proposition. But as a technology showcase – and potentially an option for executive, corporate transfer and premium passenger fleets – it demonstrates where Genesis believes the next generation of high-end electric mobility is heading.
