Mazda has expanded the MX-5’s driver assistance equipment for 2026, adding cyclist detection to its autonomous emergency braking system and introducing lane-keep assist across the range.
The changes cover both the Roadster and retractable-roof RF models, alongside new seats and interior trim for the GT RS and an additional exterior colour.
The autonomous emergency braking system previously detected pedestrians only. The addition of cyclist detection broadens the types of road users the system can identify, while lane-keep assist complements the existing safety equipment.
For novated lease buyers assessing the two-seat sports car for daily use, the driver assistance changes are the most relevant part of the update.
The GT RS now includes lightweight RECARO bucket seats as standard, trimmed in nappa leather and Alcantara with light grey stitching. Mazda says the seats are designed to provide support during spirited driving while retaining comfort for everyday use.
Alcantara trim has also been added across the GT RS instrument panel, centre console, console lid and door trim.
Externally, Zinc Green Metallic joins the colour palette for both body styles. According to Mazda, it is the first time a green exterior colour has been offered on one of its vehicles in Australia in 10 years.
Mazda Australia Sales and Marketing Director Jarrod Gieschen said customer demand had influenced the decision.
“Green has been in high demand from our customers, and we’re excited to re-introduce it,” Gieschen said.
The six existing colours remain: Snowflake White Pearl Mica, Soul Red Crystal Metallic, Deep Crystal Blue Mica, Jet Black Mica, Machine Grey Metallic and Aero Grey Metallic.
The range continues with rear-wheel drive and manual or automatic transmissions depending on the grade. The entry Roadster and GT RS variants remain manual only.
