Subaru Australia has crowned its top technician for 2026, with Daniel Bostock from Inchcape Subaru North Shore in New South Wales earning the right to represent Australia at the Subaru World Technical Competition in Japan later this year.
The annual Subaru Australia Technical Competition brings together the highest-performing technicians from across the dealer network, testing their diagnostic skills, technical knowledge and problem-solving abilities under pressure. The competition is designed to identify the technician who will represent Australia on the global stage while also promoting professional development and technical excellence across the network.
To reach the national final, technicians were first required to complete a demanding online assessment. The top five performers then progressed to the final round, where they faced a series of practical diagnostic and technical challenges over two hours.
The five finalists were:
- Ben Figdor – Inchcape Subaru Glen Waverley (VIC)
- Daniel Bostock – Inchcape Subaru North Shore (NSW)
- Jake Brandley – Llewellyn Subaru (QLD)
- James Gallien – Beer Subaru (VIC)
- Jesse Roberts – Cricks Subaru Maroochydore (QLD)
After a closely contested final, Bostock was named the winner and will now compete against Subaru technicians from around the world at the Subaru World Technical Competition in Japan in December.
Australia enters the international event with a strong record, having won the previous two Subaru World Technical Competitions. The achievement has established Australia as one of Subaru’s leading markets for technical expertise and customer service.
Scott Lawrence, General Manager at Subaru Australia, said the competition highlights the depth of talent within the dealer network and the important role technicians play in the ownership experience.
“The Subaru Australia Technical Competition is one of the most important events on our calendar, and it never fails to remind us of the extraordinary talent we have across our dealer network,” said Lawrence.
“Technicians are the backbone of the Subaru ownership experience — they are the people our customers trust with their vehicles and watching them compete at this level is genuinely awe-inspiring.”
Lawrence said the competition delivers more than just a winner, providing a valuable development opportunity that encourages technicians to continually improve their skills.
“This competition is about more than finding a winner. It’s a professional development opportunity that pushes every participant to raise their standard and take real pride in their expertise,” he said.
The competition also reflects Subaru Australia’s ongoing investment in technical training and workforce development as vehicle technology becomes increasingly sophisticated. With advanced driver assistance systems, connectivity features and electrified powertrains becoming more common, the demand for highly skilled technicians continues to grow.
Bostock now joins a distinguished group of Australian representatives who have competed at the global event and will be looking to help Australia secure an unprecedented third consecutive world title when he travels to Japan later this year.
