Chery Australia has revealed more details about its upcoming Stockman dual-cab ute, confirming a diesel plug-in hybrid powertrain producing a combined 350kW and 800Nm.
Scheduled to launch in Australia in the fourth quarter of 2026, the Stockman will mark Chery’s entry into the highly competitive ute market with a combination of electric driving, four-wheel drive capability and a 3500kg braked towing capacity.
The Diesel Super Hybrid system combines a 2.5-litre turbo-diesel engine with Chery’s plug-in hybrid technology. It is expected to provide up to 100km of electric-only driving under the NEDC testing standard, allowing many daily trips to be completed without using the diesel engine.
The combination of diesel and electric power is intended to give buyers the efficiency and responsiveness of electrification while retaining the range, towing capacity and off-road capability expected from a work-focused ute.
Chery Australia Chief Operating Officer Lucas Harris said the Stockman had been developed for customers seeking both work and recreational capability.
“The Stockman represents Chery’s vision for the next generation of dual-cab utes, combining exceptional performance with impressive efficiency and genuine capability,” Harris said.
“Offering both petrol and diesel plug-in hybrid options allows us to cater for customer demands, be it off-road performance or a more urban focus.”
Built for work and off-road use
The Stockman will use a four-wheel drive system with individually selectable front, centre and rear differential locks.
It will also feature double-wishbone front suspension, heavy-duty rear leaf springs, standard all-terrain tyres and at least 247mm of ground clearance.
These specifications position the Stockman as more than an urban lifestyle vehicle, although important figures including payload, gross vehicle mass and gross combination mass have not yet been announced.
The ute will measure 5450mm long, 2010mm wide and 1890mm high, with a 3250mm wheelbase.
Its cargo tub will measure 1560mm long, 1560mm wide and 500mm deep, providing a substantial load area for tools, equipment and recreational gear.
Unbraked towing capacity will be rated at 750kg.
“Ute buyers expect a vehicle that can work hard during the week, tackle weekend adventures and deliver strong value,” Harris said.
“Our Super Hybrid technology is designed to meet those expectations by combining electric driving capability with the power, towing and off-road performance customers demand.
Pricing, payload, local fuel-consumption figures and final model specifications will be announced closer to launch.
A petrol-powered variant is planned to join the range in 2027.
