Kia Australia has announced a leadership transition that will see Chief Executive Officer Damien Meredith step into an advisory role after 12 years at the helm, with Chief Operating Officer Dennis Piccoli appointed CEO from 1 June 2026.
The move marks the end of a highly successful chapter for Kia Australia, during which the brand transformed from a challenger player into one of the country’s leading automotive brands.
Mr Meredith joined Kia Australia in May 2014 and quickly implemented one of the most influential initiatives in the Australian automotive market – the introduction of Kia’s seven-year warranty. The move helped reshape customer perceptions of the brand and became a catalyst for significant sales growth.
Under his leadership, Kia Australia increased annual sales from 28,005 vehicles in 2014 to a record 82,105 vehicles in 2025, representing growth of 193 per cent.
Beyond sales performance, Mr Meredith oversaw the largest brand transformation in Kia Australia’s history with the launch of the new Kia logo and the global ‘Movement That Inspires’ brand identity in 2021. He also strengthened the company’s relationship with its dealer network and maximised the value of Kia’s long-standing partnership with the Australian Open.
Reflecting on his time leading the organisation, Mr Meredith said the people had always been the most rewarding part of the role.
“In business and in life, I’ve always said care is the most important word. For me, finding motivated people who care and building a strategy with them has been the most rewarding aspect of my time at Kia,” said Damien Meredith, CEO at Kia Australia.
“That, and building and maintaining a strong relationship with our Dealer network.”
“Now, I look forward to staying connected in an advisory role and ensuring a smooth transition with Dennis as the new CEO.”
The appointment of Mr Piccoli signals continuity for Kia Australia as the company enters its next phase of growth.
Mr Piccoli has worked closely with Mr Meredith for more than a decade across both Kia and Hyundai and most recently served as Kia Australia’s Chief Operating Officer after previously leading the sales division. His automotive career also includes senior positions with General Motors and Hyundai.
Speaking about the leadership handover, Mr Piccoli acknowledged the contribution Mr Meredith has made to both Kia Australia and his own professional development.
“I’ve worked with Damien for well over a decade across two OEMs and have sincerely valued his counsel and direction along the journey,” said Dennis Piccoli, incoming CEO at Kia Australia.
“I’m very privileged to transition into the CEO role here at Kia and look forward to working with the team to enhance the brand, its innovation and forward momentum.”
For fleet buyers, the transition is expected to provide stability as Kia continues to expand its range of passenger vehicles, SUVs, electric vehicles and commercial products. The company has established a strong presence in the fleet market through competitive warranty coverage, growing electrification programs and a broad dealer network.
With Mr Meredith remaining involved in an advisory capacity, Kia Australia is aiming to ensure a seamless leadership transition while maintaining the strategic direction that has delivered more than a decade of sustained growth.
