Fleet News Group has announced the nine vehicles selected as finalists in the 2026 Fleet News Group Vehicle Awards.
The vehicles will compete in each of the Fleet Car of the Year, Fleet EV Car of the Year and Fleet Light Commercial Vehicle of the Year categories.
The finalists were selected using a Best Value Analysis process designed to reflect how professional fleet buyers compare vehicles for operational use. The assessment considered whole-of-life cost, safety, sustainability, manufacturer support, market appeal and workplace ergonomics.
The shortlisted vehicles will now progress to a two-day, hands-on evaluation in Sydney during August, where the Fleet News Group judging panel will drive, inspect and compare each finalist.
Fleet Car of the Year finalists
The finalists for the 2026 Fleet Car of the Year are:
- Toyota Camry Ascent Sport
- MG ZS Vibe CVT
- Subaru Forester Hybrid AWD
The category brings together three different approaches to meeting everyday fleet requirements, with the judges assessing how effectively each vehicle balances cost, safety, practicality, driver comfort and operational suitability.
Fleet EV Car of the Year finalists
The finalists for the 2026 Fleet EV Car of the Year are:
- Volkswagen ID. Buzz Cargo
- Toyota HiLux SR Double Cab Pickup BEV
- Kia EV5 Air Long Range
The diversity of the finalists reflects the expanding role of electric vehicles within Australian fleets.
The category includes a commercial van, a battery-electric dual-cab ute and a passenger SUV, demonstrating how electric powertrains are beginning to support a wider range of fleet applications.
Fleet Light Commercial Vehicle of the Year finalists
The finalists for the 2026 Fleet Light Commercial Vehicle of the Year are:
- Kia PV5 Cargo
- Isuzu D-MAX SX 2WD Single Cab
- Hyundai STARIA Load Hybrid
The finalists represent different solutions for businesses and organisations that depend on light commercial vehicles to deliver services, transport equipment and support daily operations.
The judges will consider areas including payload practicality, cabin design, ease of access, safety, operating costs and suitability as a mobile workplace.
A fleet-focused assessment
Unlike traditional vehicle award programs, the Fleet News Group Vehicle Awards are judged by experienced fleet buyers and fleet management professionals.
The finalists were initially assessed using Best Value Analysis, a structured procurement approach that considers the total value delivered by a vehicle rather than focusing only on purchase price, driving performance or individual features.
Whole-of-life costs were assessed across common fleet ownership periods, including servicing, expected maintenance, tyres, brakes and fuel or electricity use. Vehicles were also considered against their peers to ensure comparisons reflected their size, purpose and market segment.
The process also examined safety and emissions performance, manufacturer commitment to fleet customers, market acceptance and the suitability of each vehicle for employees who may spend significant parts of their working day behind the wheel.
Finalists head to the judging days
All nine finalists will be displayed during the August judging program, allowing the panel to inspect and compare the vehicles side by side.
The judges will drive each vehicle and assess factors that cannot be fully measured through specifications and cost data alone. These include seating comfort, visibility, cabin layout, controls, technology, storage, access and overall ease of use.
Their role will be to determine which vehicle in each category provides the strongest overall solution for Australian fleets, their drivers and the organisations operating them.
The judging results will remain confidential following the two-day evaluation.
The winners will be revealed on 14 October at the Fleet News Group Awards night, when Fleet Managers, manufacturers, suppliers and industry leaders gather for one of the highlights of the fleet calendar.
Only then will the industry discover which vehicles have been crowned the 2026 Fleet Car of the Year, Fleet EV Car of the Year and Fleet Light Commercial Vehicle of the Year.
