The Ford Ranger has survived a mid-year model changeover to retain its number one position on the annual top 10 most popular lease cars in 2022.
This annual survey of novated lease top sellers had tracked changes in consumer preferences and market trends since 2017. The Top 10 Novated Lease vehicles in 2022 highlight the significant shift towards zero emissions vehicles with Tesla making the list for the first time.
Despite the increasing trend towards electric vehicles, and positive shift in government policy during the year, the Ford Ranger retained the top spot for the third year in a row.
It’s not surprising to see the Ford Ranger crowned as the most popular novated lease vehicle because it regularly tops the overall new car sales list from VFACTS. Always featured high in the rankings of most popular novated lease vehicles, it didn’t claim the top spot until 2020.
With COVID related supply disruptions and a Next Gen model changeover, the odds were against Ranger holding the number one ranking in 2022. It also had to contend with the rising popularity of the Tesla Model 3 and Model Y which were supported by the FBT Exemption late in the year.
2023 is expected to be a tough year for petrol and diesel vehicles because of the government incentives that make electric vehicles financially beneficial when taking out a novated lease.
