Honda Australia has revealed its future product roadmap and electrification strategy, confirming several major vehicle launches for 2026, including the return of the iconic Honda Prelude and the brand’s first Battery Electric Vehicle (BEV) for the Australian market.
The announcement was made alongside leadership updates and a reaffirmation of Honda’s global vision to achieve carbon neutrality and zero fatalities by 2050.
Major product updates for 2026
Honda confirmed that its refreshed line-up will begin rolling out from early 2026. Key updates include:
- CR-V and ZR-V updates – both models will receive expanded hybrid options, a new AWD Hybrid drivetrain, and Honda Connect Gen2 with Google Built-In.
- All-new Honda Prelude – scheduled for mid-2026, marking the return of one of Honda’s most recognised nameplates.
- First-ever Honda BEV in Australia – arriving in the second half of 2026, cementing Honda’s move towards a more electrified future.
By mid-2026, Honda expects close to 90% of its Australian sales will come from hybrid or battery electric models.
Strong hybrid sales momentum
Honda’s approach to electrification is focused on growing its hybrid offering while preparing for full BEV adoption. March 2025 delivered the brand’s best single month of sales in four years, with hybrids accounting for half of all sales in June.
This growth is being underpinned by Honda’s e:HEV two-motor hybrid system, drawing on 25 years of experience to deliver strong driving performance and fuel efficiency.
Customer-first focus
Honda continues to emphasise ownership value, including its Low-Price Service program to support drivers beyond the showroom. With more than 55 years in Australia, Honda maintains a diverse product range that includes SUVs, sedans, hatchbacks, motorcycles, marine engines, and power equipment.
Rob Thorp, Director at Honda Australia, highlighted that the 2026 line-up is designed to showcase Honda’s global strengths while addressing Australian market needs.
“2026 is an exciting year and a clear demonstration of our intent to bring the best of Honda to Australia, as we welcome updated versions of the CR-V and Honda ZR-V in the first half of the year, closely followed by an all-new Prelude,” Thorp said.
Connecting with a new generation
Honda is also adapting its brand positioning to engage younger buyers through new communication channels and cultural partnerships. Eva Barrett, General Manager, Brand & Marketing, Honda Australia, noted the company’s efforts to align with events such as Formula 1 to reach new audiences.
“We are continuously pushing the boundaries of mobility technology, drawing on our deep heritage of innovation and engineering excellence,” Barrett said.
What this means for fleets
For fleet buyers, Honda’s roadmap signals greater choice in hybrid and electric options over the next 18 months. The introduction of an AWD hybrid drivetrain in the CR-V and ZR-V could broaden the appeal of these models for organisations seeking lower-emission SUVs with more versatility.
The launch of Honda’s first BEV will also give fleets an additional option in the fast-growing electric segment, supported by Honda’s established dealer network and after-sales service program.
