Chery Australia has partnered with the New South Wales Police Force to provide two loan vehicles to support crime prevention and community engagement activities in Sydney.
Under the arrangement, two vehicles — the Tiggo 7 CSH and Tiggo 9 CSH — will be used by the Burwood Police Area Command Crime Prevention Unit. The vehicles will support youth outreach programs, crime prevention initiatives and broader community engagement across suburbs including Earlwood, Burwood and Rhodes.
Chery Australia Chief Operating Officer Lucas Harris said the partnership reflects the brand’s commitment to supporting local communities and public education initiatives.
“Chery is dedicated to helping the local community and is honoured to assist with public education through supporting the Burwood Police,” Harris said.
“These selfless men and women work tirelessly to keep our streets safe and providing two support vehicles is the least we can do to say thank you.”
Burwood Police Area Command is recognised for its high level of community engagement and strong social media presence, which has become a reference point for other police commands across New South Wales. The Command has focused on building trust through transparency, authenticity and consistent interaction with the local community — an approach that the new partnership aims to support further.
Superintendent Christine McDonald, Commander of Burwood Police Area Command, said partnerships with industry play an important role in modern policing.
“Strong community partnerships are essential to effective policing. Working with Chery allows us to expand our engagement efforts and reach more people across Burwood Police Area Command in meaningful ways,” Superintendent McDonald said.
“Policing one of the most culturally diverse communities in Australia, this collaboration supports our ongoing focus on safety, inclusion, and genuine connection with the community we serve.”
She added that the Command welcomed the opportunity to work with a global automotive brand.
“We are delighted to partner with Chery, a global automotive brand at the forefront of innovation and technology. Exciting times!”
Both loan vehicles are fitted with Chery’s Super Hybrid technology. The Tiggo 7 CSH combines a single electric motor with a 1.5-litre turbocharged petrol engine, while the Tiggo 9 CSH features three electric motors paired with a petrol engine, delivering a combined output of 315kW and 580Nm. Chery states the system enables up to 1,200 kilometres of driving from a combination of battery charge and fuel.
The vehicles will be used operationally by the Crime Prevention Unit as part of its ongoing engagement with schools, youth groups and community organisations across the Command’s area of responsibility.
