JAECOO has confirmed that its all-new compact SUV — the J5 — will arrive in Australia in early 2026, expanding the brand’s growing local line-up with a smaller sibling to the popular J7.
Designed to blend premium style with everyday practicality, the J5 carries JAECOO’s outdoor-inspired design language into the compact SUV segment. Its upright silhouette, broad stance, and signature waterfall grille give it a rugged-yet-refined presence, while the sculpted body lines draw inspiration from mountain ridges and natural landscapes.
Three Powertrain Choices
The J5 will launch with a choice of three powertrains, appealing to a wide range of buyers:
- 1.5-litre turbocharged petrol engine (108kW / 210Nm) paired with a CVT transmission
- Battery Electric Vehicle (BEV) version offering up to 402km (WLTP) range
- 1.5-litre series-parallel hybrid, combining efficiency with smooth performance
These options reflect JAECOO’s commitment to providing greater choice in new-energy mobility while retaining the accessibility that’s made the brand’s vehicles popular among Australian buyers.
Premium Cabin, Everyday Versatility
Inside, the J5 focuses on comfort and functionality, with a clean, modern cabin design. Five adults can travel comfortably thanks to a 2620mm wheelbase, while luggage capacity is generous — 480 litres with the seats up, expanding to 1284 litres with the rear seats folded flat.
Standard features include:
- 13.2-inch central infotainment display
- Wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto
- 8.0-inch digital driver cluster
- 6-speaker audio system
These features, combined with thoughtful storage solutions and refined finishes, make the J5 a compelling option for drivers seeking an SUV that can handle both weekday commuting and weekend adventures.
Designed for Safety and Confidence
The JAECOO J5 will feature a suite of advanced driver-assistance systems (ADAS) to enhance driver confidence and reduce fatigue on long drives. The brand has emphasised that its safety suite will use the latest technologies to support drivers in maintaining awareness and control in all conditions.
“Premium Made Practical”
Roy Munoz, Chief Commercial Officer at OMODA JAECOO, said the J5 marks a key step forward for the brand in Australia:
“The J5 represents a significant step forward for JAECOO in Australia, bringing greater choice in new energy and a more accessible path to premium motoring. It carries the design, quality and features that have made our J7 so popular into a more compact and attainable package.”
“Whether you’re travelling solo, with family, or four-legged passengers in tow, it has been engineered with thoughtful features for every journey, complemented by advanced safety and driver-assistance technologies.”
Fleet and Novated Lease Appeal
For Fleet Managers and novated lease buyers, the J5’s powertrain variety and focus on practicality position it as a flexible addition to mixed fleets. The BEV version’s 400km range and compact size could make it ideal for urban fleets seeking to meet emission-reduction targets without compromising usability, while the hybrid variant offers an efficient option for longer commutes or regional operations.
Full details on specifications and pricing will be released closer to launch in February 2026, but early signs suggest the JAECOO J5 will bring strong value and feature content to one of Australia’s most competitive SUV segments.
