Centurion has officially launched its fleet of electric Mercedes-Benz eActros trucks, marking a major milestone in Australia’s transition to sustainable logistics. The first 20 electric trucks are now operational, with a further ten set to join the fleet in the coming months. Operating entirely on 100 per cent off-grid solar energy, this $30 million-plus project represents a significant step toward zero-emission transport.
A Sustainable Transport Revolution
Centurion’s fleet of eActros trucks is serving the greater Perth metropolitan area, offering zero exhaust emissions while maintaining the company’s reputation for reliability and efficiency. The trucks, which include both rigid and prime mover models, feature advanced e-axle technology and have a range of up to 300km, making them ideal for urban and regional deliveries.
The initiative is supported by Centurion’s state-of-the-art Hazelmere depot, which houses a 4.4-megawatt rooftop solar installation. This renewable energy system, combined with over 10 megawatt hours of battery storage, allows the fleet to operate completely off-grid. The facility also features 15 dual-port slow and fast chargers to ensure efficient vehicle charging and turnaround times.

The Daimler Partnership
Centurion’s partnership with Daimler Truck has been instrumental in making this project a success. Centurion CEO Justin Cardaci emphasised the importance of working with Daimler to ensure the best possible outcome.
“We required the most advanced zero-emission electric trucks for this project and were thrilled Mercedes-Benz could provide us with the eActros. We have a long relationship with Daimler Truck and know how committed they are to innovation and technological leadership.”
Daimler Truck Australia Pacific President and CEO Daniel Whitehead commended Centurion for its leadership in sustainable logistics.
“Centurion is demonstrating true leadership in the field of sustainable road transport, and we are so excited to be part of this initiative with our eActros. The Centurion team is showing that battery electric logistics is a reality now and is not just something for the future,” he said.
Cutting-Edge Electric Technology
The Mercedes-Benz eActros trucks deployed in Centurion’s fleet are among the most advanced electric heavy vehicles available. The eActros features an electric drive system that delivers powerful and efficient performance while significantly reducing operating emissions. The trucks are built to handle the demands of commercial transport, with robust engineering that ensures they meet the high standards required for Australia’s logistics industry.
Daimler Truck Vice President of Sales and Marketing, Andrew Assimo, highlighted the significance of this project in Australia’s transition to sustainable transport.
“We are pleased Centurion has identified the eActros as the best electric truck for this pioneering project, and we know that its class-leading technology will make it a real success. Daimler Truck introduced the first electric production truck in Australia back in 2019, and our portfolio now includes the next-generation Fuso eCanter, Mercedes-Benz eActros, and eEconic,” he said.
Daimler Truck has been a leader in emissions reduction technology, having introduced Euro 6 diesel engines to Australian fleets in 2016. This expertise in both electric and efficient diesel solutions makes Daimler a key player in supporting fleet operators as they transition toward more sustainable transport solutions.
Government Support and Future Expansion
Centurion’s electric truck project was made possible in part by funding from the Australian Renewable Energy Agency (ARENA). Through the Future Fuels Program, the federal government contributed $15.8 million to support the project’s implementation. This backing has enabled Centurion to make significant investments in renewable energy infrastructure and vehicle technology, ensuring the fleet’s long-term sustainability.
With ten more electric trucks set to join the fleet soon, Centurion is reinforcing its commitment to expanding its zero-emission transport capabilities. As technology advances and infrastructure continues to improve, Centurion’s leadership in this space is likely to pave the way for further adoption of electric heavy vehicles across Australia’s logistics industry.
A New Standard for Logistics
Centurion’s launch of its electric truck fleet, in collaboration with Daimler Truck, represents a defining moment in Australia’s move towards cleaner, more sustainable logistics. By integrating cutting-edge electric vehicle technology with a completely off-grid renewable energy system, Centurion is demonstrating that zero-emission logistics is not only feasible but also commercially viable.
As more businesses seek sustainable transport solutions, Centurion’s pioneering approach provides a clear roadmap for the industry. The success of this initiative is expected to drive further investment in electric heavy vehicles, reinforcing the transition toward a greener future for Australian logistics.
