There are plenty of electric SUVs around right now. The Deepal E07 isn’t really one of them. It looks like an SUV, borrows ideas from a ute, behaves like a panel van when you need it to, and still delivers a premium EV experience. As I said on the drive, it’s good, it’s different – and that’s exactly the point.
If you like vehicles that fit neatly into a segment, this probably isn’t for you. If you like clever engineering and versatility, you’re already paying attention.
The big party trick: versatility
The rear of the E07 is where things get interesting. At the push of a button, the glass lifts and the tailgate drops, creating a ute-style load area. Fold the rear seats flat and you open up a massive 1,654 litres of usable space. It’s perfect for Bunnings runs, IKEA trips or hauling bulky gear without giving up the comfort of an enclosed cabin.
It’s one of the few EVs that genuinely changes how you might use it day to day.

On the road: quiet, quick and comfortable
Driving the all-wheel-drive Performance version highlights just how fast modern EVs have become. With 440kW and 645Nm, it’s properly rapid in a straight line, hitting 100km/h in under four seconds. Around town and on the highway, it’s smooth, quiet and easy to live with.
The air suspension delivers a soft, floaty ride, even in sportier modes. It’s comfortable rather than sporty, which suits the E07’s role perfectly.
Interior and tech: luxury with a learning curve
Inside, the E07 feels premium. Nappa leather, heated and ventilated seats front and rear, a huge rotating touchscreen and a head-up display all make it feel well above mainstream. The downside? Almost everything is controlled through the screen. Adjusting climate settings while driving isn’t ideal, and I still miss physical buttons.
Safety and ownership
The E07 is loaded with active safety and driver assistance systems. While it hasn’t yet been ANCAP tested, its closely related sibling has achieved a five-star rating. Fast DC charging, long warranty coverage and capped-price servicing make ownership easier to plan, particularly for novated lease buyers.
Verdict: who is it really for?
The Deepal E07 won’t suit every fleet policy, largely due to price and luxury positioning. But for novated leasing, it makes a strong case. It’s fully electric, packed with technology, genuinely versatile and priced competitively for what it offers.
Most importantly, it’s not boring. The E07 challenges the idea of what an SUV should be, and in doing so, delivers something genuinely new. Good, different – and refreshingly brave.
