The stage is set for Australia’s top young tradespeople to go head-to-head in a thrilling showcase of skill, precision and passion as Brisbane plays host to the 2025 WorldSkills Australia National Championships from 12–14 June.
Over 100 students from TAFE Queensland will represent the Sunshine State, joining hundreds of elite competitors from across the country in a high-stakes, high-energy competition that spans 63 different trade and technical skill categories — including everything from carpentry and plumbing to cloud computing and mechatronics.
Described as Australia’s largest and most prestigious vocational education and excellence event, the National Championships is where the nation’s future tradies, technicians and tech innovators prove they’re the best in their field. It’s also a critical pathway to global competition — with the top performers eligible to qualify for Team Australia, known as the Skillaroos, who will compete at the 48th WorldSkills Competition in Shanghai in 2026. That global event will draw 1,300 competitors from more than 60 countries, making it the largest skills showcase in the world.
TAFE Queensland Chief Executive Officer John Tucker said the event highlights the calibre of talent being developed through Australia’s vocational training system — and reinforces TAFE Queensland’s leadership in skills-based education.
“As the largest and most trusted Vocational Education and Training (VET) provider in the state, TAFE Queensland’s students and teachers are among the best trained and most skilled in Australia,” Mr Tucker said.
“In fact, over 80 per cent of the WorldSkills Queensland team is made up of TAFE Queensland competitors, showcasing our talent and dedication to supporting both our students, employers and industries.
“The WorldSkills Australia 2025 National Championships and Skills Show underscores our leadership in the training market and our commitment to providing industry-relevant training that transforms lives, industries and communities.
“This event is about recognising and celebrating excellence in both participant skill development and educator training delivery, and everyone at TAFE Queensland takes great pride in the success and excellence of our competitors and colleagues.”
The 2025 National Championships is proudly supported by the Queensland Government and TAFE Queensland. Entry is free for members of the public, giving employers, schools, families and industry partners a rare opportunity to see Australia’s future workforce in action.
This live competition and careers expo will be held in Brisbane across three action-packed days, giving visitors a unique glimpse into the craftsmanship, technology and training that underpin the skilled trades and technical professions shaping Australia’s future.
