The recently announced 2024 Isuzu MU-X range will include the smaller 1.9-litre diesel engine option with a lower starting price of $47,400, due in Australia from April.
Isuzu Ute Australia (IUA) has introduced its smaller 1.9-litre engine option, already widely used in overseas markets and base-spec D-Max models here, in the ute-based MU-X wagon for 2024 across both 4×2 and 4×4 models.
The 1.9-litre turbocharged diesel engine produces 110kW/350Nm, down on the 3.0-litre engine with 140kW/450Nm, but offers fuel economy of just 7.4l/100km against the larger engine’s 8.3l/100km claimed use.
Buyers are given a choice of either option, but for savvy fleet customers the light-sipping 1.9-litre powertrain promises range of more than 1,000km from its 80-litre tank and improved payload of 735kg, while offering a 3000kg braked towing capacity.
While the base-spec 1.9-litre options are more affordable, the 3.0-litre equipped MU-X models increase in price by between $500 to $2000 – the first increase by IUA in two years.
“Value for money has always been at the core of our vehicles, and our team has worked hard behind the scenes to continue to offer that—regardless of the pressures from increased production and transportation costs that society has endured recently,” said IUA Director, Junta Matsui.
“Increasing the price of the 24MY MU-X range was a decision not taken lightly, with all options deeply considered.
“We’re confident that value for money has been maintained across the 24MY MU-X range and the addition of the 1.9-litre turbo-diesel engine gives customers a more affordable option; not just at the showroom, but down the track, as it is up to 10 per cent more fuel-efficient than our 3.0-litre engine.”
The MU-X range is still equipped with high levels of standard advanced safety technology, which includes AEB with Turn Assist, Forward Collision Warning, Adaptive Cruise Control with Stop and Go, Traffic Sign Recognition, Lane Departure Warning, Lane Departure Prevention, Lane Keeping Assist, Emergency Lane Keeping, Blind Spot Monitoring, Rear Cross Traffic Alert, Trailer Sway Control and eight airbags.
The order books will open on April 2, with the first examples set to arrive at IUA dealerships by the end of March.
