BYD has officially launched two of the most affordable electric vehicles ever sold in Australia, with the ATTO 1 starting at just $23,990 plus on-road costs and the larger ATTO 2 priced from $31,990 plus ORC.
Unveiled at a vibrant summer-themed event in Sydney, BYD Australia and New Zealand Chief Operating Officer Stephen Collins described the moment as a milestone not just for BYD, but for the Australian EV market as a whole.
“Tonight is very much a celebration, and it’s a milestone moment for BYD in Australia,” Collins told guests. “We’re launching two all-new vehicles that will go on sale this evening, and this month we’ll also sell our 18,000th vehicle in Australia — in just three years. That makes us the fastest-growing automotive brand in the country.”
ATTO 1 – Compact, Affordable and City-Ready
The ATTO 1 — known overseas as the Dolphin Mini or Seagull — redefines what entry-level electric mobility looks like. It’s a front-wheel-drive hatchback built on BYD’s e-Platform 3.0, powered by BYD’s Blade Battery for maximum safety and efficiency.
| Variant | Battery | Power | Torque | Range (WLTP) | 0–100 km/h | Price (plus ORC) |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| ATTO 1 Essential | 30 kWh | 65 kW | 175 Nm | 220 km | 11.1 s | $23,990 |
| ATTO 1 Premium | 43.2 kWh | 115 kW | 220 Nm | 310 km | 9.1 s | $27,990 |
- Charging: DC 10–80% in ~30 minutes; 11 kW AC charging
- Dimensions: 3,990 mm (L) × 1,720 mm (W) × 1,590 mm (H)
- Boot Space: 308–1,037 L
“The ATTO 1 will, by far and away, be the most affordable EV on the Australian market,” Collins said.
“It’s a real game changer — fun to drive, full of technology, and built for the city. It’s not just about value; it’s about safety and everything our customers expect from a new energy vehicle.”
ATTO 2 – Urban SUV for Every Journey
The ATTO 2 steps things up in size and comfort, targeting families and business users looking for a practical, efficient SUV. Like the ATTO 1, it uses BYD’s Blade Battery and e-Platform 3.0, offering a strong balance of range, refinement, and technology.
| Variant | Battery | Power | Torque | Range (WLTP) | 0–100 km/h | Price (plus ORC) |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| ATTO 2 Dynamic | 51.3 kWh | 130 kW | 290 Nm | 345 km | 7.9 s | $31,990 |
| ATTO 2 Premium | 51.3 kWh | 130 kW | 290 Nm | 345 km | 7.9 s | $35,990 |
- Charging: DC 10–80% in ~39 minutes; AC 0–100% in 8.2 hours
- Dimensions: 4,310 mm (L) × 1,830 mm (W) × 1,675 mm (H)
- Boot Space: 380–1,320 L
Collins described the ATTO 2 as “an urban SUV that’s compact, fun to drive, full EV, and built for people who want both city and country adventures.”
“At $31,990 plus on-roads, it’s exceptional value — a beautiful car to drive that brings EV performance and design to more Australians,” he said.
EVs for the Many, Not the Few
For fleet buyers and business operators, these new models signal a turning point. Affordable electric vehicles are no longer a distant goal — they’re here. With prices under $25,000 and real-world ranges over 300 km, the ATTO 1 and ATTO 2 make it possible to electrify short-range service fleets, pool cars, or local delivery vehicles without major cost impacts.
The combination of low running costs, minimal servicing needs, and zero tailpipe emissions means fleet operators can now focus on fit-for-purpose selection rather than defaulting to traditional dual-cab utes or petrol hatches.
On Sale Now
Both the ATTO 1 and ATTO 2 are available to order online immediately, with deliveries expected to begin in December 2025. They join BYD’s expanding local lineup — including the ATTO 3, SEAL, DOLPHIN, SHARK 6, SEALION 6, and SEALION 7 — offering Australian drivers one of the most comprehensive EV ranges on the market.
As Collins summed up:
“We’re driven by new energy vehicles, smarter technology, more safety, and accessible EVs. The ATTO 1 and ATTO 2 bring all of that together — and make electric mobility attainable for all Australians.”
