InfoAgent has launched a new subscription service designed to help fleet, leasing and finance operators keep track of changes to vehicles in their portfolios without relying on periodic audits.
The new Automated Vehicle Monitoring service continuously checks vehicle status and alerts customers when key details change, giving organisations greater visibility over vehicles they may not physically manage day-to-day.
For larger fleets and leasing businesses, that visibility can matter because vehicle records do not always remain static between scheduled checks.
Registration can lapse, vehicles can be sold, number plates can change and vehicles can be recorded as stolen or written off. Without regular monitoring, those changes may only come to light when a customer calls, police make contact or a compliance issue is identified.
Customers provide vehicles using either a VIN or registration number and can select weekly, fortnightly or monthly monitoring.
The system can alert users when a vehicle is reported stolen, recorded on the Written-Off Vehicle Register, becomes unregistered, changes number plates or has a change in its registered postcode.
The postcode monitoring function may be particularly relevant for fleet and leasing businesses because a change in registered location can potentially indicate that a vehicle has changed hands.
InfoAgent says a vehicle registered to a lessee that suddenly appears in another state or region could indicate an unauthorised sale, a lease breach or another issue requiring investigation.
InfoAgent General Manager Paul Hardiman said the service was developed after hearing similar concerns from customers across the fleet, finance and leasing sectors.
“Every business we spoke to knew that vehicles in their portfolio were changing status all the time, and they had no reliable way to see it happening,” Hardiman said.
“They were either running expensive periodic audits, or waiting for something to go wrong before they found out.”
For fleet managers, the potential benefit is less about receiving more data and more about being notified when something changes that requires attention.
That could give organisations another control around vehicle compliance, disposal processes, leased assets and record accuracy, particularly when managing large or geographically dispersed portfolios.
Automated Vehicle Monitoring can also be integrated into existing systems through an API, allowing alerts to be fed into CRM platforms, fleet management systems or risk dashboards rather than creating another standalone system for fleet teams to monitor.
The service uses NEVDIS data infrastructure. InfoAgent is an authorised NEVDIS broker and says its vehicle-status information is drawn from official Australian vehicle registers.
InfoAgent currently processes more than 100,000 vehicle data lookups each day and works with insurers, lenders, dealers, fleet operators, government agencies and software providers.
