The finalists in the Fleet News Group Fleet Car of the Year Awards will face their most important assessment in August, when the judging panel comes together for two days of driving, inspection and evaluation.
All finalists will be on display during the judging program, giving the judges an opportunity to compare the vehicles side by side and determine which models deliver the strongest overall value for fleet buyers, operators and drivers.
The judging days will be held in Sydney during August, bringing together experienced fleet buyers and fleet management professionals from across the industry.
A hands-on fleet evaluation
The finalists were selected following a detailed Best Value Analysis that considered whole-of-life cost, safety, sustainability, manufacturer support, market appeal and workplace ergonomics.
The August judging program will allow the panel to build on that assessment by experiencing each vehicle in person.
Judges will have the opportunity to drive the finalists, inspect their cabins, assess the controls and technology, examine storage and access, and consider how each vehicle would perform as part of a working fleet.
The evaluation will focus on the factors that matter to organisations purchasing vehicles for employees and operational use.
This includes driving comfort, visibility, safety, ease of use, practicality and the suitability of the vehicle as a mobile workplace. Judges will also consider how well each vehicle balances driver expectations with the financial and operational requirements of a fleet.
Finalists compared side by side
Having all the finalists available at the same time will allow the judges to make direct comparisons between the vehicles in each category.
Specifications and cost data provide an important foundation, but they cannot fully explain what a vehicle is like to operate during a working day.
The hands-on assessment will help judges identify differences in seating comfort, cabin design, control layouts, technology, accessibility and overall usability.
It will also allow the judges to consider whether each vehicle delivers on the strengths identified during the initial Best Value Analysis.
The Fleet News Group Awards use fleet buyers as judges because they understand the practical consequences of vehicle selection.
Their decisions must normally account for budgets, safety obligations, employee expectations, operational requirements, sustainability targets and long-term support. The same approach will be applied during the Fleet Car of the Year judging process.
Winners decided by fleet professionals
The scores from the Best Value Analysis and the judges’ hands-on assessments will determine the winner in each category.
The judging panel will be looking for the vehicle that provides the strongest overall solution for fleet applications, rather than the model that performs best in only one area.
A vehicle may offer a low whole-of-life cost, but it must also be safe, practical and suitable for drivers. Another may offer impressive technology, but it must be supported by an effective dealer and fleet network.
The winning vehicles will be those that deliver the best combination of financial value, operational performance, driver suitability and manufacturer support.
Results to remain secret until awards night
Once judging is complete, the results will be kept confidential.
Manufacturers, finalists and the wider fleet industry will need to wait until the Fleet News Group Awards night on 14 October to learn which vehicles have been crowned the winners.
The awards night will bring together fleet managers, suppliers, manufacturers and industry leaders for what is expected to be a highlight of the fleet calendar.
With the finalists already selected and the judging panel preparing for the two-day evaluation, the next stage will determine which vehicles have demonstrated the strongest credentials for Australian fleets.
The winners will only be revealed when the industry gathers in October to recognise fleet management excellence and celebrate the vehicles judged to offer the best value for fleet buyers.
