GWM has announced that two of its latest models—the all-new Cannon Alpha PHEV and the recently launched Tank 300 diesel—have been awarded the maximum five-star safety rating by the Australasian New Car Assessment Program (ANCAP). This provides fleet buyers with renewed confidence in GWM’s growing model range.
These ratings follow a collaborative process between GWM and ANCAP, with additional engineering data submitted to confirm that both vehicles meet ANCAP’s stringent 2023–25 test protocols.
The Cannon Alpha PHEV scored:
- 84% for Adult Occupant Protection
- 93% for Child Occupant Protection
- 82% for Vulnerable Road User Protection
- 81% for Safety Assist
The Tank 300 diesel achieved:
- 88% for Adult Occupant Protection
- 89% for Child Occupant Protection
- 81% for Vulnerable Road User Protection
- 85% for Safety Assist
These results extend the five-star ANCAP ratings already held by other variants in the Cannon Alpha and Tank 300 model ranges. For Fleet Managers, this means there is no compromise on safety when selecting lower-emission powertrains like the plug-in hybrid or opting for diesel variants designed for off-road and towing duties.
“This achievement… underscores the brand’s commitment to the highest safety standards — delivering confidence and peace of mind to our customers,” said Steve Maciver, GWM’s Head of Marketing & Communications.
With a strong record of ANCAP performance and ongoing expansion of model options, GWM continues to position itself as a serious player in the Australian fleet market. These safety credentials should factor into whole-of-life cost assessments, particularly for organisations prioritising duty-of-care and safe vehicle policies.
