New car research site The Beep has expanded its functionality since launching in March this year, now allowing users to track market trends and compare more than 1,000 new car models.
The Melbourne-based startup launched in March this year and is, surprisingly, completely free to use. It has become one of Australia’s fastest-growing automotive websites, ensuring price transparency for consumers researching new cars and looking for the best deals, with unprecedented access to industry data.
Automotive veterans Rob Leigh and Shane Riley, who together share more than 35 years of industry experience, started the site with consumers in mind by sharing transparency data normally hidden behind paywalls.
“By providing free and simple data in an easy-to-navigate format, we’re empowering consumers to make more informed decisions with confidence,” said The Beep Co-founder, Robert Leigh.
Alongside its pricing data interface, which forms the homepage of the site, The Beep now offers in-depth specifications for more than 1,000 new car models and a comparison tool allowing consumers to compare vehicle options across a range of metrics.
The vehicle specifications include essential information like engine and drivetrain details, performance metrics, fuel consumption figures, electric range capabilities, ANCAP safety ratings and pricing data.
Pricing data is made up of an estimated drive-away price, as well high and low points, average price, and fluctuations – available for the month, year, or year-to-date. This allows consumers, or savvy fleet buyers, to dig deeper than they’ve been able to up until now.
The Beep has also added a new filtered search option, allowing users to filter by body style, price range, fuel type, make, model and grade. This search option not only allows users to narrow down vehicle options, but it also informs better purchasing decisions through valuable data insights.
Users can look at things like average year-to-date price changes for a particular make or model, vehicle type, fuel type or body style. This allows fleet managers to stay ahead of the curve, tracking monthly peaks and dips across models.
An example of data easily accessible on The Beep is the below list, outlining top ten year-to-date average price changes for electric vehicle makes (YTD at 14 July).
- Peugeot: -$25,030 (-38.50%)
- Porsche: +$24,908 (+9.39%)
- Nissan: -$15,641 (-25.80%)
- BMW: -$12,532 (-7.01%)
- Renault: -$10,396 (-14.84%)
- Tesla: -$7,654 (-9.41%)
- Subaru: -$7,649 (-8.84%)
- Ford: -$7,365 (-7.68%)
- Mercedes-Benz: +$6,105 (-3.64%)

The Beep continues to disrupt the Australian new car market, providing free insights that tell the full story for popular makes and models.
“The addition of car specifications marks a significant milestone in TheBeep.com.au becoming a complete new car research companion,” Mr Leigh said.
