Michelin has officially launched the new Primacy 5 tyre in Australia, delivering a compelling upgrade for Fleet Managers focused on safety, longevity and environmental performance. Designed for passenger cars and crossovers, the Primacy 5 is compatible with both internal combustion and electric vehicles (EVs), making it a future-ready option for mixed fleets.
With the tagline “Confidence Made to Last,” the Primacy 5 introduces a suite of innovations aimed at improving safety and reducing whole-of-life tyre costs — while also aligning with Michelin’s global “All Sustainable” strategy.
David Laing, Marketing Manager for Michelin Australia, said the Primacy 5 reflects the evolving needs of Australian drivers and fleets:
“Modern vehicles, particularly hybrids and electric vehicles, place increased demands on tyres due to higher horsepower and heavier weight. The tyre’s construction has therefore been optimised to handle these demands. The improvements in wear life and rolling resistance contribute to lower running costs, while the sustained wet grip performance ensures safety throughout the tyre’s extended life.”
Safety That Lasts – Even When Worn
Fleet Managers understand that tyre performance must be consistent throughout its lifecycle — not just when new. The Primacy 5 delivers shorter braking distances on wet roads by 8% when new, and 13% when worn, compared to other premium brands. This is thanks to Michelin’s EverGrip and EverTread technologies, which maintain effective water evacuation as the tread wears, reducing the risk of accidents in wet conditions.
Lower Emissions, Longer Life
Michelin has achieved a 6% reduction in the tyre’s environmental footprint compared to its predecessor, the Primacy 4. This is the result of improved rolling resistance and longer wear life — a major consideration for fleet buyers focused on sustainability and cost control. According to tests, the Primacy 5 delivers 24% more mileage and reduces rolling resistance by up to 13% against competing premium brands.
By extending tyre life and reducing fuel consumption, the Primacy 5 also helps fleets meet their emissions targets while reducing waste. Importantly, these environmental gains come without compromising safety or performance.
Ready for the EV Transition
As fleets begin integrating EVs, tyre compatibility becomes critical. The Primacy 5 is engineered with a high-performance rubber compound that reduces rolling resistance and supports battery range optimisation — a crucial factor for EV operations.
Fleet Managers trialling or expanding EV use can adopt the Primacy 5 with confidence, knowing it will perform reliably under heavier loads and deliver range efficiency, even in urban stop-start traffic.
Comfort and Control for All Drivers
Driver comfort also features in the redesign. Michelin’s Silent Rib Gen-3 technology reduces vibration and noise inside the cabin — a benefit particularly appreciated in EVs, where tyre noise is more noticeable due to the absence of engine sound. The result is a quieter, more comfortable ride for both short and long-distance drivers.
Available Now Across Australia
The Primacy 5 is available in 30 sizes (16″ to 19″) through authorised Michelin dealers, with more than 15 additional sizes expected later in 2025. All tyres 18 inches and above also include full-ring velvet sidewalls for a refined aesthetic, underscoring their premium positioning.
