MG Motor Australia has lifted the lid on its all-new MGU9 ute, a model designed specifically for Australian conditions that promises to set a new benchmark in both performance and refinement.
Traditionally, buyers have had to compromise—choosing between rugged capability for work or SUV-like comfort for everyday driving. With the MGU9, MG says those trade-offs are a thing of the past.
Power and Performance
Under the bonnet, the MGU9 is powered by a 2.5-litre turbo diesel engine paired with a responsive ZF 8-speed automatic transmission. Combined with BorgWarner’s Super Select 4WD system and electronically controlled locking differentials front and rear, the ute is equipped to tackle everything from highway runs to challenging off-road tracks.
The MGU9 also delivers a 3.5-tonne towing capacity, putting it in the same league as Australia’s most popular workhorses.
Comfort Without Compromise
Inside, the ute adopts a premium SUV feel. Drivers benefit from ventilated seats with built-in massage functions, while both front and rear passengers enjoy heated seating. Multi-layer comfort materials reduce fatigue on long trips, making the MGU9 well suited for fleets that clock up serious kilometres.
Technology is another highlight, with dual 12.3-inch infotainment screens and ergonomic design giving the cabin a modern and connected feel.
Innovation in the Details
One of the standout features is the unique two-step electric folding tailgate. At the press of a button, the tailgate lowers and reveals a drop-down step for safe, easy access to the tub. The design also doubles as a seating option, complete with cupholders—perfect for job sites, camping trips, or weekend adventures.
Safety First
Built with high-strength materials and benchmarked against Australia’s toughest environments, the MGU9 meets EuroNCAP five-star standards. Standard safety tech includes Bosch ESP 9.3 with traction control, automatic emergency braking, and vehicle dynamic control.
Designed for Australia
The ute’s suspension setup is particularly noteworthy, with double-wishbone front and multi-link rear independent suspension. More common in premium performance cars, this design enhances ride comfort and stability both on and off-road.
According to Kevin Gannon, MG Motor Australia’s Business Director:
“Australians no longer have to choose between performance and refinement. The MGU9 delivers both—without compromise.”
