GoGet, Australia’s first and largest carshare company, has partnered with La Trobe University to replace university pool cars with GoGet vehicles and launched an Australian-first integrated pool car carshare fleet management system.
This initiative will see La Trobe combine its pool of owned fleet vehicles with GoGet’s carshare fleet on a single booking and fleet management platform, and enable La Trobe to reduce its Melbourne Campus pool fleet by up to 50 per cent.
University staff will be able to log in to a single system and view real time availability of their integrated fleet plus the Go Get public fleet of over 2100 vehicles and book either their own fleet vehicles or a GoGet. This means La Trobe have the flexibility to scale their vehicle needs up or down seamlessly without needing to own enough vehicles for their peak demand.
GoGet will locate 25 vehicles on the La Trobe’s Melbourne campus meaning students, staff and the surrounding community will have access to a range of vehicles by the hour close to where they live or work.
This platform uses sophisticated carshare software and telematics to automate the whole fleet management process from driver access to maintenance to traffic infringement allocation.
“Gone are the days of key hand outs and paper log books. This is a new way of incorporating carshare into the existing fleet of an organisation. It will profoundly alter the way organisations manage their vehicles, because it turns the entire fleet into a fully accountable and responsive service that can be scaled up or down depending on demand,” said Tristan Sender, CEO of GoGet.
GoGet monitors each vehicle use with a unique swipe card system, eliminating paperwork and confusion and increasing accountability. GoGet provides comprehensive monthly utilisation reports designed to facilitate further savings and efficiencies for the University.
Mr Sender said that GoGet was proud to be launching this Australian-first with La Trobe University and cited the university’s commitment to innovation and student amenity as making this a perfect fit for the initiative. International students are typically regular users of GoGet and often see carshare as an important amenity. Mr Sender also said GoGet looked forward to potentially conducting transport research work with La Trobe.
La Trobe Director of Procurement Andrew Peacock said the new partnership was part of the University’s commitment to improving sustainable cost-effective and innovative services for students and staff, as well as encouraging the community to use and visit the campus more often.
“We are proudly a part of the northern suburbs of Melbourne and have been for close to 50 years. This initiative is part of our strategic plans to turn our campus inside out and encourage more local residents to use and visit La Trobe. We also expect students who live and study locally to also take up the new service as a second option to car ownership,” he said.
