MG Motor has officially launched the all-new MG3 and MG3 Hybrid in Australia and New Zealand, marking the debut of its third-generation small hatchback.
MG offers the new MG3 in two variants, Hybrid+ and MG3 (petrol) with two distinct grade options: Excite and Essence.
Since its inception, the MG3 has grown in popularity and it held a significant 43.3 per cent share of its segment in 2023, selling 15,430 units across the year.
The latest iteration boasts a slew of enhancements given it has been redesigned from the ground up, including a new platform, new exterior and interior design as well as superior performance, reduced CO2 emissions, and improved fuel economy.
At the heart of these advancements is the introduction of a new 1.5 litre Hybrid+ four-cylinder engine that charges while being driven, as opposed to plug-in hybrid powertrains that require external powering.
The 1.5-litre petrol engine produces 81kW/142Nm, and the hybrid uses a 75kW/128Nm version of the petrol engine with an additional 100kW electric motor, with both setups running through a CVT transmission.
Both the Excite and Essence variants are available on the MG3 Hybrid+ and MG3 petrol models, with hybrid pricing around $4000 more than petrol options.

The MG3 Hybrid+ achieves CO2 emissions of 100g/km with a combined fuel consumption of 4.3/100km, according to MG Motor Australia.
The Excite grade includes halogen headlights, 16-inch alloy wheels, and smartphone connectivity, while the Essence grade further enhances the offering with additions like a sunroof, LED headlights, 360-degree camera and ability to remotely turn on and off the air conditioner or heater via MG iSmart.
