CUPRA Australia will add the Leon VZx Sportstourer AWD to its local range with the first vehicles expected to arrive in September 2026.
The new variant becomes the performance flagship of the Leon wagon line-up and is the only Leon available locally with all-wheel drive. It sits alongside the Leon VZe Sportstourer plug-in hybrid.
The Leon VZx Sportstourer uses a 2.0-litre turbocharged four-cylinder petrol engine producing 245kW, matched with a seven-speed DSG automatic transmission and all-wheel drive.
CUPRA says the wagon can accelerate from 0–100km/h in 4.8 seconds. Its all-wheel-drive system includes rear torque-splitting technology, which can distribute power between the rear wheels to improve traction and cornering response.
The model is based on the same drivetrain used in the Formentor VZx and produces more power than the 221kW Leon VZx hatch.
Wagon practicality with performance hardware
The Sportstourer retains a five-seat layout and wagon body style, providing an alternative for buyers seeking additional luggage capacity without moving into an SUV.
Standard equipment includes 19-inch forged alloy wheels, cross-drilled brakes, Dynamic Chassis Control, leather-appointed seats, heated front seats with memory function, a power tailgate and a Sennheiser audio system.
An optional Extreme Package adds carbon-backed CUP Bucket front seats, Matrix Ultra LED headlights, dark exterior accents and Akebono six-piston front brakes.
For fleet buyers, the Leon VZx Sportstourer is likely to be a niche option rather than a mainstream fleet vehicle. However, it may suit executive fleets or organisations seeking a high-performance vehicle with practical carrying capacity for regional travel, equipment or family use.
CUPRA Australia Head of Product Jeff Shafer said the vehicle was designed for customers wanting both performance and everyday usability.
“Performance wagons have always inspired passionate enthusiasts because they offer something genuinely unique – the practicality and versatility people need, combined with the driving experience they truly want,” Shafer said.
“The Leon VZx Sportstourer is unapologetically built for those customers. With 245kW, all-wheel drive and advanced torque vectoring technology, it delivers serious performance without asking drivers to compromise on everyday usability.”
The Leon VZx Sportstourer is priced from $67,490 before on-road costs, with a national driveaway price of $72,490. The Extreme Package is priced at $7,600.
CUPRA includes a five-year, unlimited-kilometre warranty and five years of roadside assistance.
