This year’s ceremony was held on Wednesday 16 November 2016 at the Palau de Congressos de Catalunya in Barcelona. The event was attended by over 700 international car fleet and mobility experts from around the globe.
The Fleet Europe Awards recognise outstanding achievements in various categories of fleet management. This was the 10th edition of the event, organised by Fleet Europe, the media platform specialised in B2B information on international car fleet and mobility management.
The European Fleet Industry’s most coveted Award is presented every year to the person who has most successfully contributed to developing a fleet management strategy across the globe, and has effectively implemented an efficient cost structure for the vehicle policy by taking into account local differences and current fleet trends such as sustainability, safety and mobility management.
The 2016 Large Fleet Award was attributed to Andy Leeden, Global Category Manager Fleet at AstraZeneca. The Award was presented to him by Stefan Herbert, Senior Manager International Corporate Sales at Daimler.
The Jury rewarded Andy for successfully developing a global strategy for the 19,000 vehicles in his fleet across 72 countries, with a 100% implementation in Europe and North America. He has introduced a common fleet standard in Europe across 32 markets, partnering with HR and Safety, Health and Environment, to optimise TCO with a focus on all employees driving on business, and so not only company car drivers.
As a result, Andy Leeden has realised a 14% reduction in fleet cost base over four years’ fleet lifecycle, supported by the green focus with a CO2 reduction of 16% in 2015 and the ‘DriveSuccess’ safety programme comprising 10 training modules. Andy showed that he truly leads the Global Fleet category, with clear objectives that he realises through simplification and standardisation of processes and outsourcing.
The second prize in the category Large Fleet Manager of the Year 2016 went to Jens Werkheiser, Global Category Manager Fleet at SABMiller.
The prize was presented to him by Dr. Jörg Löffler, CEO of Fleet Logistics International. The Jury rewarded Jens for successfully implementing a truly global and commercially powerful fleet strategy for its 9,000-vehicle fleet in over 70 countries, with a top-down approach and a lean management structure.
The SABMiller strategy provides room for local adaptation and originality, for example when it comes to the local vehicle mix, the focus on engine power instead of CO2-emissions, and the introduction of telematics.
As a result, Jens Werkheiser and SAB Miller have realised significant efficiencies and cost savings of more than 20%. Jens Werkheiser convinced the jury with his enthusiasm and knowledge in all aspects of today’s fleet management and his pragmatic international fleet approach.
