The next-generation Mazda CX-5 will arrive in Australia carrying a five-star ANCAP safety rating across every model grade, giving family, fleet and novated lease buyers another reason to place the popular medium SUV on their shortlist.
Tested under ANCAP’s tougher 2025 protocols, the new CX-5 achieved a standout 93 per cent result for Vulnerable Road User Protection — the highest score awarded in that category under the current criteria.
The result reflects the performance of the vehicle’s collision-avoidance technology and a front-end design developed to reduce the risk of injury to pedestrians, cyclists and other road users.
Its complete ANCAP scorecard was:
- Adult Occupant Protection: 90 per cent
- Child Occupant Protection: 91 per cent
- Vulnerable Road User Protection: 93 per cent
- Safety Assist: 87 per cent
The rating applies to all variants, avoiding the specification gaps that can sometimes leave lower-grade fleet models without the same safety credentials as more expensive versions.
ANCAP Chief Executive Officer Carla Hoorweg said the result should provide reassurance to buyers of a model that has traditionally been popular with Australian families.
“The CX-5 has long been a popular model for families, and buyers of this latest model can be assured that Mazda has considered the safety and protection of occupants and those outside the car,” Hoorweg said.
Mazda Australia Managing Director Vinesh Bhindi said the result reinforced the importance placed on safety during the development of the company’s best-selling model.
“Customers have the reassurance that our most popular Mazda model has achieved impressive ANCAP scores across the board, with particularly notable rankings in vehicle occupant safety, and a record-breaking result for vulnerable road users,” Bhindi said.
A strong start for the next CX-5
The CX-5 has long appealed to private and novated lease buyers through its styling, cabin presentation and enjoyable driving character. Its latest safety result strengthens the business case for Fleet Managers considering the new generation for passenger-vehicle programs.
A five-star rating across the complete range will also make vehicle selection simpler for organisations with minimum ANCAP requirements in their fleet policies.
