There aren’t many head turning cars in the market these days though every time I drive a Genesis I feel like a movie star as people turn their heads to stare. This happened again recently when I took the Genesis G70 Shooting Brake for spin and I heard the term ‘Korean Bentley’ for the first time.
And this is definitely my kind of car; luxury all the way with a bit more presence than a sedan.
Being a ‘wagon’, the Shooting Brake is more versatile than a sedan and its amazing how the extra space becomes part of your lifestyle. With folding rear seats I found myself returning items with larger items from the shops. It was spring, so maybe it was home decorating season and the Genesis Shooting Brake was in the right driveway at the right time of the year.
The stares might come from athletic stance of the G70 which combines with the front and rear quad lamp design. Or, maybe its the badge which invokes a sense of grandness and motoring heritage from a bygone era.
There are two engine options in the Genesis range. I’ve driven the V6T which delivers 274kW and it’s smile inducing. This time I was driving the 2.0T which provides 179kW. While the V6 is noticeably more powerful, the four cylinder doesn’t disappoint.
In the driver’s seat you’re surrounded by leather and life’s little motoring treasures. The Genesis website describes it as a driver-focused interior which resembles a fighter jet. Maybe a tad too much marketing bravado in this description though I can see what they were thinking with the Nappa leather, bold stitching and aluminium surfaces.
With some inclement spring weather I was able to enjoy all of the niceties on offer. The heated seats and steering wheel were delightful when combined the four way lumbar support.
If you’re not a fan of SUVs and crave a little bit of luxury, the Genesis G70 Shooting Brake will give you the space you need with the comfort you desire.
