Last week in QLD, Fleet and Procurement Managers gathered with industry suppliers at the Government Procurement, Works and Fleet Conference put together by Shane Grimstone and the team at Local Buy.
The agenda was packed with topics to keep the attendees engaged as well as updates from the team at Local Buy on various issues. Day One had multiple streams in the morning and finished with a networking event after an early start for most participants.
CEO Claire Johnson from Hydro Mobility Australia provided insights into the future of fuel cell technologies citing increased R&D in the automotive landscape, state government project spending in the ACT and the formation of HMA as an advocate in Australia for commercialisation across a number of industries to deliver clean and renewable energy.
Tesla representative Nathan Gore-Brown presented the vision for fleet electric vehicle mobility with Model 3 being slated as an affordable fleet solution when it lands in Australia in late 2019. Safety, convenience and infrastructure continue to be the focus of the brand with the new Model 3 slated to deliver WOLC which compete with traditional ICE fleet, making electric vehicles viable and more compelling choices.
Joeanne Fox from Nissan was in attendance along with Chris Beattie from Bob Jane T-Marts. Both organisations were sponsors of the event and had displays in the exhibition space.
“Overall the event was a well put together function with many guest speakers including Olympic Hockey Gold Medallist Nicky Hudson who spoke on a range of topics, including self motivation and her personal experiences in sport which can be transcended into the workplace” said Beattie.
“Businesses across many fields were presented with great opportunity to meet with like minded fleet and procurement professionals from local Councils from all areas of the QLD region. Looking forward to next year’s event “.
Day Two was another jammed packed day with presentations by Brendon Green from Pickles Auctions, Roger Saliba from Bridgestone and Lance Boxall from Repco Australia.
This conference kicked off the conference season for Fleet Managers with the IPWEA Fleet Conference and AfMA still to come in 2018.
