I may be ‘cancelled’ for voicing this opinion, though after the tremendous success of International Women’s Day, I thought it would be time to share this emerging truth. Owning an electric vehicle requires the ability to multitask; and women do this better than men.
When you charge an electric car you are free to complete other tasks. Women can deal with this and will schedule the charging around their schedule. For example, charge at the shopping centre while indulging in retail therapy. Or, charge at home while sleeping!
The entire fossil fuel industry has been built on the notion that men can only do one thing at a time. Think about it, what else can do when you’re putting petrol/diesel into your ICE vehicle? Nothing! You can’t even look at your phone!
Handling flammable liquids is a delegate process that requires concentration and care. The fuel bowser and petrol tank were designed with enough smells and dirt to dissuade women from attempting the task in the early years. But the real genius is in the refuelling process. Men got to leave a car for a brief moment of solitude; with no other task to perform allowing them to give 100% concentration to one thing.
The conspiracy goes deeper when you look at the design of a service station. The oil industry built dedicated locations so men could perform this task without any other purpose. They didn’t put them near supermarkets or department stores because that would distract from the one task they had to perform.
Some service stations now have convenience stores, but have you noticed the size? Just big enough to stock the essentials, but not big enough for someone to linger longer than it takes to fill the car.
It’s a conspiracy theory that has worked for over 120 years. Electric vehicles were invented and used before Henry Ford started mass producing the Model T and should have triumphed. But at some point men realised the ICE vehicle suited their world better.
