Last year will be remembered as the year the tide turned towards zero emission vehicles. At the start of the year Tesla starting reporting sales in VFACTS which provided a peak into the consumer demand for electric vehicles. By December, the top 10 models included the Tesla Model 3 and MG ZS.
Fleet vehicles still dominated the top sellers with utes filling three of the top 10 places and SUVs that have replaced station wagons, and are popular novated lease options, filling another three spots.
A new entrant into the 2022 top 10 selling models is the MGZS which signals the acceptance of Chinese brands in Australia for the first time. In 2012, 12,319 vehicle came from China compared to 122,845 in 2022.
Many Fleet Managers are still reluctant to purchase brands from China with concerns about reliability and access to a dealer networks being the main concerns. However, the 2022 new car sales results show that consumers are less concerned.
