Renault Australia is pleased to announce that the Koleos range is now standard with Advanced Emergency Braking System (AEBS) and Apple Carplay.
Andrew Moore, Managing Director, Renault Australia said: “We are excited to be able to offer both AEBS and Apple Carplay to our customers. The Renault Koleos is the best-selling model in our line-up with 739 vehicles having been sold as at the end of March.
“The standard feature list on the Koleos is already highly impressive and includes reversing camera, automatic transmission and 7-inch touch-screen. Our entry level Life specification is just $29,990 driveaway and now with AEBS and Apple Carplay as standard, the Koleos is an even more compelling product offering for our customers.”
The AEBS is designed to prevent or reduce collision risks if the vehicle in front should slow down suddenly or stop. To do this, the system warns the driver and, if necessary, applies the brakes via the ESC. This function is managed by the radar.
The Advanced Emergency Braking function has two phases of operation depending on the situation:
- 1st phase: To warn the driver of a potential collision risk. This warning is audible and visual only.
- 2nd phase: To prompt the driver to brake by using automatic braking.
The first warning phase alerts the driver to an imminent collision risk so as to prompt them to slow down or avoid it. When the radar detects a collision risk, a visual warning is displayed on the instrument panel along with an audible warning within the vehicle. In order to anticipate potential braking the ESC increases the pressure in the brake circuit without slowing down the vehicle. In addition the Emergency Brake Assist threshold (EBA) is lowered so that the driver will have maximum braking power more quickly.
If, despite the first warning, the driver does not slow down to increase the distance from the potential risk, the system will brake automatically.
Two situations may arise following the warning phase 1:
- The driver brakes but there is still a hazard – more braking force is applied of around 20 to 30%. This does not change the feel of the brake pedal.
- The driver fails to brake despite the hazard – the system brakes automatically. The maximum duration of this braking is 2 seconds.
During the automatic braking, the brake lights are switched on automatically. However, the driver can interrupt braking at any time by pressing the accelerator pedal or turning the steering wheel rapidly in an avoidance manoeuvre.
Along with the addition of AEBS to the Koleos range, all Renault Koleos variants are now compatible with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto via the R-Link 2 navigation system. This enables smartphone replication on the system’s 7 and 8.7-inch displays (depending on the specification).
