It’s a big call by the IPWEA to go virtual. And a great call that provides certainty to members and sponsors.
The 2020 IPWEA Fleet Conference was held on the eve of lockdown in Australia. There was lots of confusion and concern which caused a decline in attendance as organisations instructed employees to stay at home and stay safe. It was unfortunate for Rob Wilson and team because they had worked so hard to prepare the event and provide attendees with an excellent program over the three days.
A virtual conference in 2020 provides is guaranteed to go ahead regardless of the status of COVID in Australia. IPWEA is predicting greater attendance than previous conferences because more people will be able to participate in the virtual event from their office or home. Entire fleet teams/departments will be able to experience the event that was previously limited to selected employees due to travel costs.
IPWEA is also promoting the added benefit for sponsors of an extended virtual exhibition space that will be open for 30 days after the conference. They have invested in technology that provides an online platform for suppliers to have their own virtual exhibition space which will allow online chats plus videos for product demonstration and brand messages.
Networking will remain a key feature of the conference though the interaction may be in the comfort of your lunch room or kitchen table.
IPWEA believes a virtual meeting can make networking more accessible than at an in-person meeting. Instead of having to coordinate schedules or track down potential customers during the conference, virtual conference attendees will have many opportunities for direct communication, instant messaging and impromptu conversations at the click of a button.
