The hulking GMC Yukon is on its way to Australia, expected to go on sale early next year through local distributor General Motors Specialty Vehicles (GMSV).
Likely to be right-hand drive converted by long-time GM partner and converter of other US models like the Silverado and Ram, Walkinshaw Group, the top-spec Denali variant was announced on the GMSV website as ‘coming 2025’.
The GMC Yukon is a success in North America, where it is the top-selling large SUV alongside its twin-under-the-skin Chevrolet Tahoe sibling. However, a likely price tag well north of $100k in Australia pits it against dominant local players in the large SUV category.
While it presents as an alternative to Toyota LandCruiser and Nissan Patrol models, it is perhaps closer to a Lexus GX in specification, however offers a full eight seats, massive 16.8-inch infotainment screen, second-row captains seats, and it rides on gargantuan 24-inch alloy wheels.
For context, the GMC Yukon is around 300mm longer and 70mm wider than the already large LandCruiser 300 Series and inside its US-style lounge-on-wheels spaciousness puts it in another class altogether. Perhaps an ‘extra-large SUV’ category would best describe it.
Specifics like powertrain details and of course pricing are yet to be revealed, however the ginormous GMC is creating quite the stir following the announcement of its upcoming arrival. Perhaps bigger really is better.
