In 2023, 38% of CUPRA’s Australian sales were either PHEV or BEV. CUPRA Australia is focusing its efforts on continuing to grow this figure via the ongoing popularity of the Born, Leon and Formentor VZe grades of PHEVs, and two all-new SUVs (the all-electric Tavascan and the Terramar expected to offer a PHEV option) due to arrive on Australian shores in 2025.
CUPRA’s unstoppable impulse in Australia has seen it achieve more than 200% year-on-year growth, smashing through the 5,000 car milestone in fewer than two years in the market.
To power the next phase of its growth, CUPRA Australia has announced a new sales and service centre to launch in Essendon Fields, Victoria, in early 2025. This joins a raft of other projects in their final stages of planning including new Queensland and New South Wales Garages and additional service outlets around the country.
CUPRA Australia Director, Ben Wilks, said defying expectations is what CUPRA is all about.
“We raised a few eyebrows when we launched a European performance brand into a crowded Australian market back in 2022. Since then, we’ve found Australians have overwhelmingly embraced CUPRA’s scintillating mix of electrifying performance, dynamic driving qualities and eye-catching design,” explained Wilks.
The CUPRA range currently includes four models: the Leon small hatchback, the Ateca and Formentor mid-size SUVs, and its first fully electric model, the Born.
‘”With CUPRA deliveries globally growing 50.9% year-on-year to 230,700, we’re delighted to be at the forefront of CUPRA’s international growth story. While it’s not our intention to be a brand for everyone, we are excited about the expansion of our retail and service network, for our second generation of EVs arriving in Australia in 2025, and for CUPRA powering an ongoing global electric revolution,” added Wilks.
