Bridgestone’s Webfleet has issued statistics showing how much it’s grown and how far its telematics and fleet management products have spread since its inception 25 years ago.
The software-as-a-service fleet management solution is used by more than 60,000 fleets worldwide. More than 130 million kilometres travelled by customers are tracked daily.
Other statistics include:
- 23 million litres of fuel is monitored every day.
- Webfleet is present in more than 150 countries.
- More than 60,000 tonnes of CO2 is monitored daily.
Webfleet started backin 1999, when DataFactory AG developed the first web-based fleet management solution. Leveraging the power of the personal computer, Webfleet offered a level of scalability never possible before, with fleets able digitise tremendous amounts of manual labour and paperwork.
“Fleet businesses quickly understood the power that this new dynamic put at their fingertips, and soon, Webfleet was, and still is, Europe’s most popular fleet management solution,” said Webfleet .
The global spread followed.
“All of this growth was driven by a core principle: understanding the challenges of fleet businesses and supporting them to overcome those challenges with the most advanced technology available. That means constant innovation, and from spearheading the first wave of track and trace telematics to harnessing the power of vehicle data, connected sensors and artificial intelligence, Webfleet has stood at the forefront of rapid technological change.”
In 2006, TomTom acquired DataFactory, combining the Webfleet fleet management solution with TomTom GPS devices. With connected navigation and order management, fleet businesses received a massive range of new data, insights, and capabilities to further streamline operations. In 2010, Webfleet introduced their series of Driver offering in-cabin route guidance and route calculation to save time spent on the road; replacing the ubiquitous UBD/Melways in the side door.
By 2015, Webfleet launched OptiDrive, a completely new approach to help drivers continuously improve performance, resulting safer driving, lower fuel consumption and more sustainable fleets.
Then in 2019, another major milestone was the acquisition by Bridgestone of the TomTom Telematics commercial unit.. At that time, Bridgestone, which already had a range of digital solutions and applications including Tirematics, Mobox, FleetPulse and Bridgestone Connect, said that the transaction created “a fleet solutions powerhouse”.
Today, the Webfleet portfolio continues to evolve to meet the demands of the changing fleet landscape as Bridgestone advances to be the world’s leading mobility company
“Alongside the market-leading telematics on which we built our reputation, we are continuously adding new capabilities made possible by technologies like AI and IoT,” Webfleet said.
“Meanwhile, we remain committed to building a more sustainable future of mobility. By giving fleets clear visibility over where and why their vehicles produce CO₂, Webfleet enables them to take meaningful action to cut harmful emissions, while our EV solutions support operators achieve = operational, legislative, and strategic goals.”
