WA Police has introduced new, highly visible livery for their Highway Patrol vehicles, with the goal of improving road safety. The updated livery, designed after research into European and US policing standards, retains the familiar checker pattern used across Australia. Two newly commissioned vehicles, a BMW X5 and Skoda Superb, were recently seen in the final stages of their fit-out. They are set to join the current Highway Patrol fleet, which consists of Skoda Superbs, Kia Sorrentos, and a Kia Stinger, along with the new BMW X5.
The Highway Patrol team focuses on patrolling arterial roads within the 400km ‘Arc of Influence’ around Perth, extending into regional Western Australia. While road policing across the state is handled by various units, Highway Patrol officers play a key role in ensuring safety on these critical routes. Their high visibility, alongside the updated livery and new emergency lighting setup, is part of a broader road policing strategy aimed at deterring unlawful driving behaviours and encouraging road safety.
The rollout of the new livery will occur progressively, with two vehicles being updated at a time, ensuring minimal disruption to road safety efforts. The entire Highway Patrol fleet will eventually be retrofitted, and other traffic units are also expected to receive the upgrade. A total of 44 vehicles will undergo the transformation, and members of the community can expect to see the new-look vehicles on the roads in the coming weeks.
