Tranzit Group boasting a fleet of over 2,000 vehicles, has announced EROAD as its exclusive telematics provider, in a significant four-year partnership for +1,200 units. The decision follows a comprehensive tender process which began in June 2023.
The Tranzit Group is proud to be the largest family-owned and operated bus and coach company in New Zealand, operating over 2,000 vehicles across 35 depots. In addition to providing bus and coach transport, they also provide short- and long-term rentals through Cross Country Rentals, helping New Zealanders and tourists travel from Cape Reinga to Bluff, and they operate a number of Special Education School Transport Assistance (SESTA) runs on behalf of the Ministry of Education, to safely transport students with special needs to school.
After a sustained period of growth and business acquisitions over the last few years, Tranzit found themselves managing their fleet across three telematics providers. With such an expansive operation, the team needed a reliable, scalable fleet management solution to support continued business growth. As well as meeting existing requirements (electronic RUC, advanced driver identification & safety monitoring), Tranzit were seeking to move to a single technology provider that would deliver enhanced fleet management capabilities and support their fleet decarbonisation goals.
“We’ve already begun to transition our urban bus fleet of predominately diesel buses to zero emissions and will continue on this journey to help New Zealand meet its decarbonisation goals,” says Keven Snelgrove, Tranzit Group’s Transport and Operations Director.
“At the same time, Tranzit continues to be in growth mode meaning that it is becoming increasingly important to have one Telematics provider to bring our systems onto one platform which is where EROAD meets Tranzit’s needs. In addition to quality reporting for electric buses; our driver, operations, fleet and finance teams, the driver dashboard unit displays are user-friendly and there will be a strong installer network and a quality training component.”
Following an in-depth tender process that evaluated several technology offerings from renowned international telematics providers, EROAD emerged as the clear choice, securing the exclusive contract for +1,200 units.
In addition to adopting EROAD’s Safe Driver Plan which includes electronic RUC and driver behaviour tools, Tranzit has incorporated several ancillary solutions to support their goal of enhanced fleet management. These include, EROAD Day Logbook for driver fatigue compliance; EROAD Inspect for paperless vehicle inspections; pre-trip comms to improve driver communication; and EROAD Analyst for advanced fleet data analysis.
In pursuit of their decarbonisation goals, the company is also excited to fully utilise several EROAD products and features that promise to deliver deeper insights into their operational efficiency. EROAD’s feature-rich Sustainability module serves up reporting, insights and recommendations for managing emissions, while the upcoming ECM fuel burn reporting and engine health alerts will provide vehicle-level insights that will accelerate their efforts towards greater fleet efficiency.
In anticipation of completing the transition to EROAD as their single fleet management partner, Mr Snelgrove says his team is looking forward to being trained on how to use the new hardware with multiple future benefits already highlighted.
EROAD’s Executive General Manager, ANZ, Konrad Stempniak commented on the partnership, saying, “We’re delighted that Tranzit has chosen EROAD as their exclusive fleet management partner. EROAD is uniquely positioned to support the company in achieving the high standards of safety and customer service they pride themselves on. It gives us great confidence when organisations of the calibre of Tranzit Group believe in the value that EROAD can deliver. We look forward to building on our partnership with the Tranzit team in the coming years.”
The Tranzit roll out with EROAD is due to complete midway through 2024.
