Contact Group is a successful business in Tasmania running a fleet of 80 vehicles and provides a range of electrical services to customers with offices in Launceston, Burnie and Hobart.
Adam Moore looks after the fleet and he confirms that since implementing a Fleetmatics system they have reduced their fuel bill by 10-15%. “There are a number things we look at with the telematics system but I think just having it in place deters drivers from speeding or using the car on the weekend” says Moore.
Contact Group don’t have a formal policy about using vehicles after hours for private use so it’s managed locally by each branch manager. But Moore believes drivers now think twice before taking the company car on small errands which has contributed to the large fuel saving.
“The speed notifications have also played a part. Every time a vehicle is travelling higher than the designated speed for that road an email is sent to the driver. We don’t use it for disciplinary purposes but it makes the drivers aware of their speed so they can change their behaviour or driving style” says Moore.
The Fleetmatics system is also used by Contact Group for vehicle service reminders, job allocations and responding to complaints from the community about their drivers. “Our vehicles are branded so we do get some customer complaints. The system allows us to validate the complaint against the location of the van. And most times it proves our vehicles wasn’t in the area” states Moore.
