STARIA-LOAD IN DETAIL
PLATFORM
iLoad to all-new STARIA-LOAD
STARIA-LOAD has been built from the ground up on the same N3 passenger car platform as the latest 2021 Santa Fe. This platform is lighter and more rigid than that of the outgoing iLoad. This, combined with a new FWD layout, provides car-like refinement, handling characteristics and ride quality, creating a more approachable and familiar driving experience without sacrificing performance or practicality.
New platform: same dependability and performance
While STARIA-LOAD has moved to a FWD drivetrain, performance and dependability are better than ever. A solid rear axle and leaf spring rear suspension provide a strong set up for carrying heavy loads, while the new platform and powertrain help increase braked towing capacity to 2.5 tonnes.
STARIA-LOAD benefits from improved production processes, resulting in a chassis that is 70 percent stronger and 14 percent more torsionally rigid than outgoing iLoad, while being lighter and larger. The benefits are best displayed in the braked towing capacity of this platform, increasing by 1,000kg to 2,500kg.
STARIA-LOAD’s new platform and layout has not only increased cargo volume, it has also made the space more usable, with the ability to fit three Euro pallets, with an increased sliding door opening width for side forklift access.
POWERTRAIN
STARIA-LOAD features a 2.2 CRDi FWD powertrain, mated to a Hyundai-developed eight-speed automatic transmission.
CARGO AREA
STARIA-LOAD’s cargo area is larger and more usable than outgoing iLoad’s, growing in all dimensions. Crucially, access has been improved, with STARIA-LOAD able to load Euro standard pallets via the side doors thanks to wider sliding door openings, with space to fit three full euro pallets (1,200mm x 800mm) or two Australian standard pallets (1,165mm x 1,165mm).
STARIA-LOAD has a lowered floor for easier loading and unloading, as well as 96mm of extra height for head room and taller items. There are also eight tie down points throughout, a variety of mounting points for accessories and felt board trim in key areas where objects may damage the interior walls.

There is ample storage for front occupants including front roof trays, a dashboard storage tray, and a driver’s dashboard cup holder, while a centre walkthrough in two-seat van variants makes for easy access to the cargo area.
Conveniences such as a wireless charging tray (Qi standard), a USB multimedia port, auto up/down windows, and heated, power folding mirrors each do their bit to make the working day run smoothly, and a leather appointed shift knob and steering wheel add a touch of refinement while remaining durable and pleasant to use.
Crew Van variants feature a comfortable fixed bench seat second row that offers ample shoulder width for three passengers as well as a generous 1,025mm of legroom.
The second row provides a pair of USB charge ports, twin cup holders in the rear of the centre console, and four bottle holders in the sliding doors. There’s even a hidden storage multi-box integrated into the second-row seat as a useful additional storage space for small items.
STARIA-LOAD features black cloth upholstery and a warm grey headlining.
SAFETY
STARIA-LOAD features an exceptionally safe body structure with the benefit of seven occupant-protecting airbags. Among these is Hyundai’s pioneering front centre side airbag, which prevents or reduces injuries caused by collisions between the front occupants or between front occupants and interior components, in the event of a side impact collision.
STARIA-LOAD also features an extensive standard suite of SmartSenseTM advanced active safety and driver assistance technologies.
Summary of SmartSense™ technology
Forward Collision-Avoidance Assist (FCA- Car/Pedestrian/Cyclist)
The Forward Collision-Avoidance Assist (FCA) system in STARIA-LOAD incorporates a Forward Collision Warning (FCW) system. The system monitors for vehicles, pedestrians, and cyclists ahead, and if a potential collision is detected FCW will sound a chime and display a warning in the cluster. FCW uses a windscreen-mounted camera and is active above speeds of 5km/h, up to speeds of 160km/h.

Where no driver intervention is detected after a system warning, FCA works in conjunction with FCW to automatically apply the brakes to avoid or reduce the severity of a potential collision. FCA is active above speeds of approximately 8km/h, and will attempt to bring the vehicle to a complete stop if activated up to speeds of 50km/h.
Forward Collision-Avoidance Assist-Junction Turning (FCA-JT)
A Junction Turning function as part of STARIA-LOAD’s Forward Collision-Avoidance Assist system (FCA-JT) detects oncoming traffic when turning right (with the right indicator activated) at an intersection. If a collision appears likely, the brakes are applied to reduce the chance of a collision. FCA-JT is operational at vehicle speeds of 7 to 30km/h, and can detect oncoming vehicles travelling between approximately 30 and 70km/h.

Blind-Spot Collision-Avoidance Assist (BCA)
The Blind-Spot Collision-Avoidance Assist system (BCA) consists of two functions – Blind Spot Collision Warning (BCW) and Active BCA. BCW uses the windscreen-mounted camera to monitor STARIA-LOAD’s positioning within the lane, and radar sensors on either side of the rear bumper to detect vehicles next to and diagonally behind. If a vehicle is present in STARIA-LOAD’s blind-spot zone, BCW displays an alert in the exterior mirrors. If the driver proceeds to activate the corresponding indicator, a flashing visual warning is provided, and an alert is sounded. BCW operates at vehicle speeds of 30km/h and above.
The system also scans for vehicles approaching rapidly from the rear and uses the same warning measures to alert the driver to the presence of vehicles travelling at high speed that may soon enter STARIA-LOAD’s blind-spot zone.
Active BCA can initiate Electronic Stability Control (ESC) system intervention to help avoid a collision with an approaching vehicle next to or behind STARIA-LOAD, which it deems as being at a high risk of contact due to its proximity. The ESC system gently applies braking force to the wheels on the opposite side to the potential collision point as an active avoidance manoeuvre to steer STARIA-LOAD away from danger, reducing the chance of collision and/or helping to mitigate damage. Active BCA is operational at speeds between 60 and 180km/h.
Rear Cross-Traffic Collision-Avoidance Assist (RCCA)
The Rear Cross-Traffic Collision-Avoidance Assist (RCCA) system monitors for traffic approaching on either side of STARIA-LOAD when reversing out of perpendicular parking spaces. Should RCCA detect a vehicle approaching, an alert will sound, and warnings will be displayed in the dash cluster, on the multimedia screen, and in the corresponding exterior mirror.
In the event the driver does not respond to the warnings, the system will apply braking force to help avoid a collision with the approaching vehicle. The system uses the BCA system’s radar sensors and operates at speeds of 10km/h and below. It can detect approaching vehicles travelling at speeds between 8 and 36 km/h.
Safe Exit Warning (SEW)
The Safe Exit Warning (SEW) system reduces the likelihood of occupants exiting STARIA-LOAD when the conditions make it unsafe to do so. The system uses the radar sensors on either side of the rear bumper to detect vehicles approaching from the rear. When STARIA-LOAD is stopped and SEW is active, the system continually scans the rear path of the vehicle. If a door is opened while an approaching vehicle is detected, the system will issue an audible alert and display a warning in the instrument cluster, advising occupants to ‘Watch for traffic’.
Lane Keeping Assist (LKA) System
The Lane Keeping Assist (LKA) System consists of two modes – Lane Departure Warning (LDW) mode, and Lane Keeping Assist (LKA) mode.
The LDW system detects lane markings and monitors STARIA-LOAD’s position in the lane. Should the vehicle stray from the intended lane without the indicators being activated, audible and visual warnings will be issued.
Additionally, LKA helps prevent the vehicle from straying from the lane by providing steering intervention should the driver not respond to warnings from the LDW system. Both LKA and LDW are momentarily deactivated whenever the turn signals are active. The driver must maintain control of the vehicle by holding the steering wheel at all times.
The systems operate at vehicle speeds of 64km/h or above where the windscreen-mounted camera can detect lane markings on both sides of the vehicle.
Lane Following Assist (LFA)
The Lane Following Assist (LFA) system provides steering assistance to ensure STARIA-LOAD stays in the centre of the lane, using the front windscreen-mounted camera to detect lane markers on the road. If activated via the ‘User Settings’ menu in the cluster, LFA is active whenever Smart Cruise Control is operating, lane markers are detected, and the vehicle speed is less than 150km/h.

Intelligent Speed Limit Assist (ISLA)
The Intelligent Speed Limit Assist system uses navigation system data as well as reading road traffic sign information using the windscreen-mounted camera to display the speed limit of the current road to the driver.
As well as helping the driver to stay within the speed limit during non-cruise control driving the system will prompt the driver to change the set speed of the Manual Speed Limit Assist or Smart Cruise Control when these systems are engaged.
If the speed limit of the road changes during the operation of Manual Speed Limit Assist or Smart Cruise Control, an up or down arrow is displayed to inform the driver that the set speed needs to be changed. At this time, the driver can change the set speed according to the speed limit by using the plus and minus buttons on the steering wheel.
Smart Cruise Control (SCC) with Stop & Go
Smart Cruise Control (SCC) with Stop & Go detects the speed and distance of vehicles ahead of STARIA-LOAD to automatically maintain a safe following distance during cruise control driving. The driver can set their preferred following distance from four settings, with an appropriate stopping distance maintained according to vehicle speed. SCC can operate up to a pre-set speed in the range 30 to 160km/h.
Additionally, a Stop & Go function works in stop/start traffic to bring STARIA-LOAD to a stop when appropriate, then automatically (if within 3 seconds of stopping) accelerating it back to the set speed.
Driver Attention Warning (DAW) with Leading Vehicle Departure Alert (LVDA)
The Driver Attention Warning (DAW) system monitors for the signs of fatigued driving to prompt the driver to take a break when needed.
The system uses the windscreen-mounted camera to continually monitor the vehicle’s position within the lane, while also tracking steering inputs, brake pedal inputs, and time since last break, and operates at speeds between 60 and 180km/h.
When the system registers signs of tired driving, such as sudden steering or braking inputs or an inability to stay within a lane, the ‘Attention Level’ cluster display will continually decrease. Should the level decrease to a certain threshold, the DAW system will recommend that the driver takes a break.
The system also features Leading Vehicle Departure Alert, which monitors the vehicle ahead when stopped in traffic. If the vehicle ahead drives off, and the STARIA-LOAD driver fails to accelerate away, the system will sound a gentle chime to alert the potentially inattentive driver.
Rear Occupant Alert (ROA) – Crew Van variants
The Rear Occupant Alert (ROA) system helps prevent the unintentional locking in or leaving behind of children or pets in STARIA-LOAD Crew Van. When active, the system registers occupant entry from the opening and closing of the rear doors. When the driver opens the front door after parking, ROA will issue a warning chime and prompt the driver with a message in the cluster to ‘Check rear seats’.
CONVENIENCE TECHNOLOGY
Surround View Monitor (SVM) – not available with twin swing tailgate
STARIA-LOAD Liftback variants give the driver a bird’s eye view of the vehicle and its surroundings from four cameras placed around the vehicle, so they can have complete confidence when maneuvering into or out of spaces.
Additionally, the Rear View Monitor (RVM) system featured in STARIA-LOAD allows the rear camera to remain on continuously while driving if required, so that the driver can monitor the road conditions behind the vehicle.
Electronic Parking Brake (EPB) – with auto hold function
STARIA-LOAD features an easy-to-use electronic parking brake with an auto hold function. When the auto hold function is active it applies the park brake automatically when stopped on hills, to allow for easy hill-starts without the vehicle rolling back.
4.2-inch LCD dash cluster display
A Supervision instrument cluster display featuring a 4.2-inch colour LCD screen presents a range of trip computer information in STARIA-LOAD, as well as a digital speedometer, and system status and visual alerts from SmartSense™ and other safety systems, including DAW, FCA, LKA, RCCA & the Tyre Pressure Monitoring System (TPMS). Vehicle settings can also be controlled via the menus in the cluster.
