GWM has announced that its new Cannon ute model will go on sale in Australia from February, offering added safety, performance and a bigger braked towing capacity.
The upgrades for the 2025 Cannon range include powertrain improvements, now featuring the gruntier 2.4-litre turbocharged diesel engine from the larger Cannon Alpha model offering improved outputs of 135kW/480Nm. Power is fed through a larger nine-speed automatic transmission.
Critically for fleet operators who wish to tow, the braked towing capacity of the Cannon has been increased from 3200kg to a full 3500kg – putting it inline with the industry standard across its dual-cab ute competitors.
Exterior updates include a refreshed front and rear design, creating a more dynamic aesthetic with clean lines and reduced chrome accents. The rear tailgate now features large embossed GWM branding for a stronger road presence, too.
Internally, the cabin has been upgraded with premium materials, advanced technology and enhanced comfort features, ensuring a superior driving experience.
“We’re excited to bring the new GWM Cannon to Australian customers in February,” said Head of Marketing & Communications for GWM, Steve Maciver.
“With almost one in five vehicles sold in 2024 being a ute, it’s vital for GWM to stay ahead in innovation and technology while meeting the evolving needs of our customers.”
Full model line-up and pricing details will be revealed closer to the February launch, GWM has confirmed.
