MG Motor has been operating in Australia for several years and retail sales success has come with a great range of products and a good value proposition for owners. Like all many manufacturers with volume growth in their plans, they have been courting fleet buyers and are now ready to make a big impact with electric vehicles.
Matthew Morrison, General Manager – Fleet at MG Motor Australia, knows what it takes to get fleet buyers interested from his previous roles at Holden and Toyota. He explains that Fleet Managers can be hesitant to add new brands to their fleets, though MG Motor has had success with its latest products.
“The rental companies have been very supportive of our vehicles and it was a great way to get some volume into a fleet to work through the internal processes and planning so we would scale up,” says Morrison.
“The next few years will be very exciting with the launch of the MG4 EV after success we’ve had with the electric MG ZS. Fleet Managers are taking the time to understand the brand and see the quality of our products. We have the cars, and the supply, so there should be more MG badges in fleet car parks soon.”
The only potential question mark for fleet buyers is resale value which has a big impact on Whole of Life Cost (WOLC) calculations. Morrison’s confident the vehicles will be desirable as ex-fleet cars.
“Resale is determined by a number of factors,” explains Morrison. “There’s strong demand from new car buyers for the MG range which will translate into strong prices in the used market. Warranty is another factor. As a first owner, fleets will keep the cars up to five years which leaves another two years of manufacturer’s warranty for the second and owner.”
MG offer a seven year / 160,000 km warranty and ongoing service costs are available and transparent via the Precise Price Servicing.
The MG4 is set to be released in Australia in H1 2023 and Morrison is excited to bring this model into the country for fleets which will be launched at the Fully Charged LIVE show in Sydney.
“Our fleet customers can take comfort knowing that the MG4 features the latest technology, world class design and quality materials resulting in an anticipated top tier ANCAP safety rating,” says Morrison.
MG Motor Australia will be revealing their new ZS EV long range with 440km of range (WLTP) at the show alongside the first public-preview of the award winning MG4.
Peter Ciao, the CEO of MG Motor Australia said he’s excited to showcase the new MG4 and expand the ZS EV model offering with a longer range.
“MG Motor Australia is putting our customer’s priorities at the centre of our soon to be released MG4 and current ZS EV so we can continue providing the best driving experience possible and make EVs’ more accessible to all Australians.
“As the FullyCharged event debuts in Sydney for the first time ever, we are excited to be a part of this event and have the opportunity to showcase our newest model, the MG4.
“We know this model will speak to many people’s needs and wants in Australia and New Zealand as it has with other markets around the world.
“The MG4 is the first MG to be based on our EV-only MSP (Modular Scalable Platform). This introduction of our EV-only platform signals our ongoing commitment to ‘Take Charge’ and intention to move toward an EV future.”
“We listened to our customer’s feedback and have fast tracked the arrival of our long range ZS EV with a larger 72kw battery pack and 440km of range to Australia. This provides more peace of mind in terms of minimising range anxiety and matches our pursuit of driving.
