The Fleet Europe Awards recognise outstanding achievements in various categories of fleet management. This year was the 10th edition of the event, organised by Fleet Europe, the media platform specialised in B2B information on international car fleet and mobility management.
This Award is presented to a company that has successfully implemented a driver safety project, within the framework of the CSR strategy and with a focus on driver behaviour. It rewards a project or programme that improves the safety of the drivers and limits incidents and accidents related to the vehicle fleet, whilst taking into account cost optimisation.
Joint winners of the International Fleet Safety Award 2016 are Carel Aucamp, Global Category Manager, and Velma Baptiste-Destouche, Global Health and Safety Manager, both at British American Tobacco. They received the Award from Olivier Marion, General Manager Corporate Sales at Infiniti.
The Jury rewarded Carel and Velma for developing and implementing a global fleet strategy for the 22,000-vehicle fleet, fully centred on Safety, with three pillars: standardisation of vehicle specification and OEM brands, fuel efficiency management, and Fleet Management.
This strategy fits into the company-wide campaign called ‘Closing the Gap to Zero’, to achieve an accident- and incident-free business environment.
To enhance the safety philosophy, two global driver training programmes are installed, which are complemented by local training programmes and supported by gamification and incentives. As a result, there was a 33% accident reduction within 24 months, reducing the cost base by more than €15 million year-on-year.
As their biggest USP, Carel and Velma underline the ability to use data to change and improve behaviour. They will continue Closing the Gap to Zero with the roll-out of a single-sourced international telematics programme for 14,000 vehicles.
